Hi everyone I have a 2009 1125R with 4500 miles my stator finally went out and its getting replaced under warranty. I have a couple of questions. When my bike is out of warranty is the stator still covered because its a existing condition? what are the chances of the dealership actually fixing the problem? if there is a real solution out there could somebody point me in the right direction or tell me who I need to talk to. Theres so many threads about it i cant seem to get a straight answer. |

Continue to have HD replace the fried stators until the warranty is up and then have your stator custom rewound to 08 specs. |

Rarely do I read a warranty or T&C acceptance that doesn't contain a line such as "No additional warranty terms expressed or implied" or something to that effect. The stator is the only real reason I would consider an extended plan. Mike |

Georgehitch17 - Could a merchantability argument be made if the stator service histories of similar vehicles in the market place were proven to be substantially better? |

I don't see why not. As far as I know other rotax built v-twins have great reliability and stators that don't fail! |

As nobody has come up with the real cause or cure for the stator/regulator issue as in which one is killing the other, I doubt you will be covered. You will be covered to the end of the present warranty. If the part were replaced a week or two before the warranty end, you might get somewhere with a claim. Get the extended warranty, works out at $250 a year for 5 years extra cover. $50 a visit and covers the whole bike. |

The Statior wil continue to be a point of grieft with thid motocycle. If you gaey a good warranty program and has great dealer/service mechanical experiencez then it is fine. To date: big worries are parts availabilities and turnaround time of those parts. |

I don't think the rotor will need to be changed, I know the 08 rotor is different but I think that's because the 08 stator is smaller.. Hopefully someone who knows will pipe up though.. |

I'm not an expert, but doesn't the current factory solution for '09 charging system problems involve 1) replacing a failed Voltage Regulator with another one, 2) replacing the wire harness with one that connects 2 of 3 legs from the Stator to the VR, 3) replacing the 09 stator with another 09 unless it tests OK? The resultant system does not overheat the VR, has sufficient charging margin for the motorcycle and any reasonable electrical accessories an owner might add, and won't likely overtax the stator into destruction. |

Both the stators and the matching flywheels ARE different diameters and must be changed in pairs (08 stator and 08 flywheel) (09/10 stator with 09/10 flywheel) As far as I am aware the cover is the same, the 09 and 10 just have some additional machining to clear the larger diameter flywheel. I have the parts to do the swap but have to finish the reverse airflow duct work before starting the stator business |

regulatorrectifier.com don't sell the later model stators but they will rewind them with a 5 year warranty for a fraction of the cost of a new one. When I get a chance I'll start an exchange service. |

You should be better off than someone with an 09, but almost any sportbike has premature stator failure issues. Just do a google search of your favorite year/make/model. So a 09 stator might last 7k miles on average and a 08 stator might be double that on average. My point is stators fail early, compared to car alternators, because of the hostile environment that they live in |

Bumblebeetuna96 You can get a takeoff stator and cover from EB Racing. I'd put one of those in the cupboard if I had a 2008 model. They are a good price for what is effectively a new stator, and you get a new cover with it. |

I and a few friends have 08 1125Rs. All have original charging system AFAIK. Mine, Loretta, has 26k miles, Neil in TN has 40k+ and Paul in the Northwest has 60k+. I had a bad camshaft; wires broke at the switch; IC, fuel sensor, fuel pump died and were replaced, but NO charging issues. This is once I'm glad I got the RevA. Zack |

They posted that none of the returned stators were bad. So they are saying that no dealer did an actual test of the stator? This isn't rocket science. A DVM will tell you if it's bad or not. If you get 60,000 miles out of a stator, then you are a lucky SOB. Hondas are arguably the most reliable sport bikes, right? http://cbrforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29941 That was my first google hit for honda stator failure. Some guy/woman in China is making these things, working 7 days a week, 16 hours a day, so they are bound to make a few bad ones. You can blame yourselves for demanding lower prices on everything! |

I had north of 42,000 miles on an original '08 charging system until I swapped the motor in my track bike. No charging issues at all. Now she's got a fresh 09 motor. Anyone taking bets? |

Jim, is that the bike you sent to E B R? I thought you were having the 08 motor reworked. Hopefully you won't have issues since you keep the revs up. |

I had a fresh motor put in and the bike worked over. It's an '08 chassis with an '09 heart. Came back a little stronger I've taken 3 seconds off my previous personal best as of Friday afternoon. She's a *missile*. |

Just when a group of us started planning a three day ride in the Spring. If this bike leaves me stranded... On second thought maybe I should just sell the bike and get one that I can depend on, that would solve the problem. That new Kawasaki 1000 looks better all the time, even has bags and windscreen. I have an 08 and 09 and bought a stator off ebay for an 08 to put in my 09. So I took apart both bikes and I can't, for the life of me, tell any difference. I measured stators and rotors and even checked resistance. All appeared identical. I even thought maybe my 09 was really an 08 until I noticed the clutch cover was the 09. Michael at Erik Buell Racing says they ARE different, but doesn't know exactly how they differ. I plan to put the 08 stator in the 09 and see what happens. It will for sure fit in the cover, I confirmed that already. |

Count the poles on the stator. 2009: 12 pole stator & larger OD, looks to be hand wound(?). 2008: 18 pole stator & smaller OD. machine wound. Rotors are different and matched to the stators. 08 stator and rotor can be retro fitted to an 09 engine no problem, bolts right up. Don't need an '08 cover, the '09 cover is fine with an '08 stator/rotor. |

That's crazy, all mine have 18 poles, even my 09. Maybe my 09 is early production? Lampo, how do you know. I'm not doubting you, just wondering. If you are right, I'm all set then. |
