As many of you know I found a motor for number 304 (1995 S2). The motor is from a S3T and I will be doing a 1250 kit. I will try to upday this as I can but I am still in the cleaning and checking to see what I need (like a front brake caliper hint hint). Cleaning:

BTW: I tried sandpaper and use 600 grit to get some of the gouges and scratches out (or looking better) then 1000 grit and 2000 grit. I do not know how people have the time for this but after all weekend of doing that (and Lynn getting pissed at me wet sanding in the kitchen sink) I bought a bench mounted buffer. I watched a lot of videos on Youtube (is that how Engineers do it Loren?) and this was the result of my first pass. I have a polisher and he has done a lot for me (polished the PM rims) but there is a certain satisfaction in doing it yourself. Besides, this one of the few things I can do and not cause too much damage. Frank |

Nice work Frank, I use a D/A sander with 320 paper to start then go to 400 wet/dry with a little dish detergent in the sink then to the buffing wheel with White Rouge to finish. Again the rockers look great! |

Thanks. I still need to polish them a bit more but they are fine for me. My polisher can make them look like mirrors but that comes at a coast. (Message edited by f_skinner on November 01, 2010) |

Can I borrow your polisher? The PM's on the X1 need some love....and I don't mind if someone else does it. That doesn't sound so good...but oh well. LOL |

Sure Loren, ride on out. You know I thought about the PMs as I had my polished but I did see a small unit that I thought would be great for stuff like that at Harbor Freight. The bench mounted one would be cumbersome at best. Might need a couple of beers first. |

Brad, I doubt there is anything you can do that would "risk our friendship". Thanks for the link. When I get time I think I will look into ordering some of their products. Bart, there is no hurry. So where did you move to ABQ or Santa Fe??? |

Nice work, Frank! I got bit by the bug myself. From experience, look for a pedestal to put the buffer on. I haven't yet, preferring to occasionally have my nearly finished piece to be grabbed the buffing wheel and slammed into the bench. It's amazing how easily aluminum dents... |

Frank- Is there a reason you have the engine mount on the floor? It seems like it would be easier to work on up higher, is it too difficult to get it up? |

Nope I actually was making another stand but decided to just put wood under the stand. I am ok working on it close to the ground (it is about a foot higher now) but I am trying to get it to the correct height as it sits in the frame. It is pretty easy to lift without the jugs and pistons. There is method to my madness, not my first rodeo but I am always open to suggestions of doing things easier. My idea is to just put the frame over it and if I have it level it should help with some of the adjustments. Shane, I was going to wait and contact you after the holidays for the next timing cover edition but it will be the same design with different text of course. I hope you can make it. Hell, I hope I can make it LOL. |

I did a frame over the engine method. Having a way to lift the front or rear of the engine independently would have helped, but I think what made it hard was having the rear wheel attached. It was great for moving the engine/swingarm around the garage but made for some positioning clearance problems later. |
