I know I should get real gear, but I'm basically a cheap bastard so I go with a pair of old ski overpants that I got at a Goodwill. They are water/windproof and have a good lining that keeps me warm all the way down to the teens for my commute to work in the am. | ||

Same I wear all year long from hot to cold. Motoport Stretch Ultra II. Add liner for wet or cold conditions under 50ish. Buy the best once. Mine are 5 years old and look new after a wash. | ||

I've had the Olympia Ranger for 4 years and they've been great. Last long trip they leaked on all day soaker and I found the seam tape in the crotch had come loose. Can't complain, I've worn them almost every day for almost 4 years. Fixed them up with Seam Grip, but now I'm looking at Motoport air Mesh Kevlar. Only thing I'd change about Olympia, and every other article of clothing, is get rid of the stinking velcro. On the pants it makes it exceedingly difficult to get them on and off over boots. | ||

The one thing I kind of learned from my Olympia pants was that I think I like a separate liner better. More flexible for hot weather, and when it inevitably leaks you only need to replace the liner. The Oly's have the liner built in. Motoport is separate. If you're buying cheap ski stuff, that doesn't matter I guess, but for me if I'm going to the trouble to wear overpants, I'd like them to help keep my skin on if I crash. | ||

Are you wearing the overpants over regular pants? When I put the liners in I just wear a thermal base layer under them. I am considering some heated pants under them so I can brave some sub zero temps IF the roads aren't packed with snow and Ice. | ||

I wear over pants over work pants for the commute, summer or winter. Nice as I don't end up ruining work pants by driving through some spilled anti-freeze or riding in a light rain. Coincidentally to this thread... I was showing Jack (my 10 year old riding enthusiast who can rock an KX-60... a big boy bike) the cut out section of my dockers from my first motorcycle accident (low side on the m2 from a hidden divot while I was dragging a peg on the street)... Nice gnarly hole in the dress pants, soaked in goo from what was leaking from my rashed up knee until I could get home and try and deal with it. He got the point. All the gear, all the time. You don't want to know how bad it hurts to unfold yourself from a coach class 4 hour flight 3 days after a "minor" lowside. Ow. Ow ow Ow ow Ow. I (literally) spent more on antibiotics and dressings for the two months it took that to heal than I would have spent on a proper pair of riding padded / armored overpants in the first place. Lesson learned the first time... | ||

Joe Rocket Ballistic. They're waterproof (at least last year and the first rain of this year) and reasonably warm. Handy for me was available short inseam length to fit my short, stocky self. | ||

Slightly off topic but I saw a guy the other day wearing the new Icon Patrol safety yellow jacket and pants...I swear that combo could make the blind hear and deaf see!!  If you CAN'T see that suit coming down the road, then you need to get Ray Charles to take your vision test for you. After years of riding in Aerostich stuff, I sprung for a test run in a Tourmaster Transition jacket and Caliber pants and have been pleased with them so far. Some areas concern me a little with the quality of the finish and seam work but the price point on both was low enough that I figyad WTH and tried it. So far, dry and comfortable down to the low 40's/upper 30's, esp the pants. For fall riding, I still use mesh gear waaaay down here- Firstgear HT Air 2.0 but I don't think that's really what you were interested in hearing. Fieldsheer cyclone suit. Really warm, especially with the liners in and fully armored, waterproof too (for the most part) plenty of pockets and reflective stripes. I like it alot but you just cant wear it in the Florida summer.... | ||

I've got AD1s as well, but tend to wear them in the summer. I like the roadcrafter pants for the winter since they are a bit thicker. Suppose I could layer better under the AD1s though. Reep, Good on ya to remind Jack of the ATGATT mentality. I don't always practice that, but should. Many mornings I get lazy on my 5 mile ride to work, but one of these days it's going to bite me. Perhaps a paradigm shift is in store... | ||

First Gear HT2 Overpants are da bomb. I've been wearing them for 3 years, they are great. Keeps everything nice and cozy down to about 20 or so.. Colder if the ride is 20 miles or less. Then the thighs start getting a bit cool. Knees are no problem due to the knee pads. | ||
