With 7k on the exhaust it was well past time to put a new pillow in: ***Make sure you have a good rivet gun. The stainless rivets Barkers supplies with the packing are too tough for a cheap gun to handle!***

Try some stainless steel wool... holds up a bit better than ordinary packing. |

How loud was it after blowing out most of the packing? I'll admit that I've never repacked an exhaust, but on the other hand, I've never had one get significantly louder than stock. |

Thanks Jim....so what's the rule of thumb about repacking these Barker exhausts? The one thing I did like about the FMF is it had that little sticker which turned color when it was time to repack. The noise increase is probably too gradual to notice I would think. |

No rule of thumb... I just kept an eye on it and if the exhaust wasn't full or there was any change in tone.... repack. |

Quick questions for those running the Barker on 1125r. Can u run it with the stock ECM? Will it hurt the bike any by running it with the stock ECM? Thanks |

Running any exhaust, including the stock one with the stock ECM is just stupid. There is no downside to the Race ECM. |

I gained about 4 or 5mpg with the race ECM, but I can't vouch for any changes from the tailpipe as I haven't had it tested. |

Gas mileage and emissions, not that anyone cares, but just saying... I am thinking the commuters would probably see a drop in gas mileage because the stock map gets unbelievably lean at those steady low RPMS. However, those that primarily ride the twisties and use more of the mid and upper rev range may actually see comparable gas mileage or even better compared to the stock ECM. My feeling is a well tuned race ECM will take fuel from where its wasted and add it to where it's needed. Obviously the better the stock map is, the less possible improvement and we know the stock map is LOADS better now--so maybe I off base here? However from personal experience, I fall more into the latter category (using the bike primarily in twisties) and haven't seen any dropoff in fuel economy--and if I had to guess one way I think it's a smidge better. At the track, same thing. All unscientific of course.} |

Fresno, I seem to get comparable gas mileage rates out of the stock ECM and race ECM for track use as well. One thing I HAVE noticed, back when I rode the street more: An 1125r will behave rather well on the street if ragged on. It's as if there are two maps: one that is as lean as possible to pass EPA, and if you just get on it and stay on it for a while, one that seems to take over and stick around as long as you are ragging on the bike. |

When the first '08s came out with the horrible fuel map, I researched the EPA testing on motorcycles. I have since forgot most of it but I seem to remember it focusing more on low RPM efficiency. maybe they figure that's where the majority of engine operation falls riding the streets? I remember the first maps sucked big time at low RPM operation but when you opened up the throttle--look out! I wonder if manufacturers have more leeway in the higher RPM ranges? |

the reason it gets better mpg is because the engine is running MORE EFFICIENTLY, whether it be richer or not, a more efficient engine, that doesnt have as much strain on it will perform better in EVERY aspect... Jake |
