Wouldn't it be nice if you could make a Jardine equipped XB9/12 run as good as a Drummer equipped XB9/12 ? Without loss of low end torq. and less low speed closed loop surging ? The design problem with the Jardine is it is a short straight through pipe , good for wide open throttle , but bad for low end , partial throttle , closed loop riding . It is a good looking pipe and nice sounding (a little loud) with good top end HP. I have been testing different Maps , ECM,s , Enrichment Devices , on my XB9 for over two years , trying to get a happy medium with the Jardine , with little positive out come . I have used Mike Cobbs maps , and am currently running a custom ECM from Erik Buell Racing . Even with those mods , it was better , but not great . I think I have finally found the secret to making the Jardine perform like it should . I have modified it internally , and so far the testing is pretty positive . I am currently doing more testing , and will post my results soon . | ||

Did you install a reducer? It can help gain some of the low end torque loss. I had planned to do it but I had the wrong size reducer last time I had the exhaust off. | ||

I do not have a reducer installed at this time , I have tried that in the past with mixed results . This time the Jardine is completely different inside . If I can get away without running a reducer it would be better . | ||

Have you increased the inner diameter of the perforated go throught tube and then put some thinner insulation around it? I know that someone did this before with good result for low end torque. | ||

I am eager to se your result for this mod of the Jardine pipe. Because I think the Jardine pipe is a very nice and good locking pipe with a very deep sound, I have only heard the Buell race on a 9XB but my Jardine was a lot deeper then the Buell racecan. I know that a lot of people dont like this pipe but thats not my oppinien. I have filled my pipe with SS steelwool and have never had any problem with rivets that ripp the aluminium. I have a map from a Dyno bench and it is a very god map. | ||

I too am curious what you have done. I've got mine running very well with a Jardine. I have their Quite Tip installed, I'm not sure how much that changes the performance characteristics of the Jardine. Mine was showed 92 HP with a nice flat torque curve. Nice even power from around 2500 rpm right to red line. After 32K miles on the Jardine my biggest problem is that my chin spoiler failed from not having any support at the front. I have an idea to fab some supports for that. This would be an issue with any muffler that lacks the front mounts though. | ||

I am going to continue testing and hope to have a Dyno read out in the next month or so . There are so many Jardine pipes out there , not to mention the good price , it would be a great to perfect them . With the poor selection of pipes available for the XB , and the skyrocketing prices of what is available , I am on a mission to find out . Say tuned | ||

i like my jardine im not having any problems with it. but like i am really getting a rough ride during closed loop riding. and as its idling i can hear a very fast rattling sound coming from there which i dont know from what exactly though. so im curious of what ur going to come up maybe it can help all of us. good luck! | ||

Here is some pictures of what I did to my Jardine to increase the inner volume of the muffler . I just about doubled the volume from the original 2" perforated tube inside the muffler . This was the first time I tried this , and would use ceramic packing next time . It sounds very good , with a deep tone , a little loud . I am playing around with different sized inserts to reduce the outlet and some noise . It runs pretty darn good , and alot of the low speed closed loop surging has gone away . .          | ||

Here are some internal pics of how things are holding up after about 300 miles . Everything is still tight and secure . The little bits of orange are Hi-temp Silicone I used to seal the front of the muffller to the L pipe . So far so good .   | ||

That is a great idea and I will be considering doing something to my Jardine pipe soon. The only problem I see or not really a problem but the end cap will get some discoloration from the exhaust gases directly hitting it. | ||

Do you know for sure what the fueling is for it, ie; did you set up wideband O2 sensors on the exhaust and tune it? | ||

It looks like the screen tube is basically glued in place with the silicone. Is that correct? I was thinking it might be more durable with a ring cut from fairly heavy sheet metal that has 3 or 4 fingers that are spring loaded against the outer can. My idea would make packing the muffler a bit tougher though. | ||

Well , in effect , you are kind of right , but it is a pretty tight fit , its in there pretty good and its not going anywhere . The only reason I put the high temp silicon on the ends of the mesh was to insulate the ends from rubbing on the end caps . I am sure if the packing burns out at some point the mesh could come loose . It would be nice to have some sort of oval steel ring inside , but this was just a test to see if it would work . And the investment was very minimal . | ||

That was my thought, that as the packing blows out the tube will start to move around. Just brainstorming a bit... It might be a good idea to run a bead of high temp silicone around both ends of the mesh pipe and let it harden. That would likely provide a very durable, cushioned, yet easily removable tube. | ||

Its going to many thousands of miles before enough of the packing is depleted to allow the tube to move around. If its checked at regular intervals it shouldn't be a problem. | ||

Here is my latest mod to the Jardine . I made a insert/reducer that adds 3" in length to the outlet , and reduces the outlet ID size from 2 1/4" to 1 3/4" . My Bike is a XB9R , so hopefully reducing the outlet size and gaining a few inches in length to the system will give some positive results .     | ||

Have not been able to test ride it yet , since installing the insert , because of lousy weather here . And still no Dyno test , because of lack of $$$ . The nearest Dyno from me is around 200 miles away . Its the butt Dyno for now .  | ||

Yeah Firemanjim , thats my goal , to bring it to you guys , from what I hear you guys are the best Dyno Shop for Buells in our area . I want to get it up there as soon as the rain lets up , I would like to know if I am going forward or backward , lol . Hopefully we will get a break in the weather after the new year .  |
