I did the search for this and found some postings claiming the speedos are right on. Mine seemed to read very high all of a sudden. Only mod is the race ecm and that's been on awhile, just checked with the "your speed is" radar signs. I read 49/50 and the sign said 45. On my CR sixth gear at 6000 rpm says 92mph. Any thoughts?

How worn are your tires? As the tires wear the circumference gets smaller, causing the speedo to read higher. It does not take much to change the reading by a few percent.

My speedo is optimistic (09 CR). I use a GPS when I ride so I never look at the speedo. It's probably around 7% off if I recall.

Mine reads high as well. It has ever since I switched to the race ECM. I ordered the map for a 2009 CR with K&N and FMF slip-on (before there were individual part numbers for the different maps). I always just assumed the speedo was calibrated for the R's gearing rather than for the CR's and adjusted accordingly. I usually run an indicated 10-over when I need to be around the speed limit, and I haven't run into any issues with the Law yet. It never bothered me enough to send the ECM back for a reflash, but I suppose it would be nice to have an accurate readout. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

If your speedo is more than 2 or 3 MPH off at normal highway speeds, you have something wrong that should be corrected.

Do these read off the front or rear wheel? Or the gearbox? My rear tire is about half-worn maybe a bit more. I was hoping someone could give their numbers for the 6th gear/6000rpm/92(?)mph bit. Anyone wanna risk a ticket for the cause?

They read off the transmission. According to my gearing calculator, 6000rpm in 6th on a CR is about 90mph, depending on tire wear, pressure, and so on. I don't go that fast, so I can't confirm the accuracy at that speed with a GPS. You should be at roughly 60mph at 4000rpm in 6th.

Didn't realize you had a CR until now! My '10 1125R's speedometer reads 100 mph in 6th at 6000 rpm.

GPS verified as 1 mph over the speedo reading.

My CR speedo has consistently been 5% fast compared to the Garmin. (The V-Rod is right on, as are both my cars, to the same Garmin). My rear tire is near to not passing the annual safety check, and the speedo error hasn't varied noticably over the 2500 miles I've put on it so far.

Kidder, I have had mine GPS verified, it is normally within 2mph on the highway with a good GPS accuracy (15 feet). On my R with Race ECM it will say 60-61mph on the dash and 60 on the GPS, and my CR with Race ECM will say 61-62 with 60 on the GPS.

So if mine seems about 10% off, and way to re-set it with the toggle functions? Or would it be in the race ECM? The odometer seems close though.

If it is about 10% off, you probably have the 1125R gearing programed into the ECM, not CR. Either way assuming your VSS isn't acting up, it is just a quick software fix.

Thanks Froggy, but this seems like it happened all of a sudden to some degree. Didn't ride the bike for a couple of days and then this last ride I noticed right away the reading "felt" too high.
