Thanks for the English link - you think Buell would take that as a hint for the way to go with the Blast - seems since they borrowed some ideas from Buell the least Buell could do is notice the growing number of performance singles starting to be aimed at the US market and respond - its a hope - I suspect something new in 05' but only time will tell. I'd really like to see the "Buell't to Speed" VD Classics special as a limited edition thoguh, but fat chance of that happening...

I have been on the Breva 750 and it has that same great feel of the Rock of the engine when you roll the throttle on the Guzzi. Nice styling and great ergonomics. Cantilevered frames are great.
Triumph and Retro old style shocks/fenders etc. Retro-Neo-caffe Thruxton 865cc with 270 degree cam like the Speedmaster and Bonneville America. I keep wondering if it is hard to start if it gets wet? Does she leak like the old Bonnies? Oops! did I say that? I like the caffe style.
I still think Buell should take their little single "thumper and put it on a remock BSA Frame/tank etc. Lightning,Thunder,Rocket....
Maybe FI it and chrome it out! Funny nobody posted Honda's 599cc for 2004. I hope Buell jumps with BLAST engine in a bigger displacement in a few months or next year or the middle to meet the Honda splash. It would be nice to see a single against their ilk with HDI backing.

modern singles have sold very poorly . . . everyone sez that they want one, but few buy when they are released . . . .. that can be a gas, and, I agree, it would be fun to see what the factory could do with a blast (streettracker, perhaps?)

The caffe is the thing I am talking about with the single. You can see where Triumph decided to use the venom as the model for their Thruxton.
However who is to say Buell could not produce a Blast or Single Caffe as a Retro model? Look at this old caffe page.

This is the country where bigger is better. people dont want to buy the 500cc thumpers, they want the 1800cc V-twins & 1300cc inline 4's. Not saying I agree with that reasoning, hell I owned a couple 600cc inline 4's & there is no reason anyone on the street needs more than that.

Any singles or small displacement bikes here are listed as starter or beginner bikes.

The small bikes sell very well overseas because they have the tiered licensing programs, streets are extremely congested in a number of cities, large displacement bikes are taxed to death, etc etc.

I guess I have to agree with you to some extent that the whole Japanese copcat stereotype really hurt the W650. I guess I kind of feel the same way about the current Triumphs. Hell, if I want a Cafe Racer, It will have a twin leading shoe front brake (with the air duct of course)and none of that electric leg bullshit!

Some days the Royal Enfield Bullets look really appealing, but for now I'll stick to the nice relaible Blast. I often think of the Blast a a mondern day incarnation of a Velo Thruxton or an AJS boy-racer.

Had the privilege of seeing, touching and following Dreer and Dave Edwards from Cycle World on Dreer's first two re-manufactured Nortons on the Ortega a few years back.

The detail is phenomenal as is the cornering ability. Hand hammered and worth every penny. One was a cafe racer and the other a scrambler version. Real nouveau classics.

Most common comment from the crowd was how small (physical dimensions) the Brit bikes were. Made my FJ1200 looked huge along side them and that was no big bike either.

Bottom line is if you want the looks, go for price. If you want an investment and to be the center of attention wherever you go get the Dreer!!!

I guess at 42 most consider themselves 'old'. Translation - you get to slow down. Well I like a bike than can blur the landscape when you open the throttle, 42 YO or not, though I couldn't just buy a run of the mill production bike like say a sports 600 or larger for that reason alone. Whilst looking good as a sports bike, and most do, and delivering the speed seekers thrills like they do, and taking into account the new generation of rice rocket styling like under seat pipes and under engine fairings, mimicking the GP bikes, that isn't my favoured ride no matter how brilliant the ride or bike. For me it has to be a Streetfighter and that's why the S1W is the best looking production bike on the planet and that's why I chose it. Coming off Harleys and before that old fast (back then) Triumphs, I had these alarm bells sounding in my head about performance and reliability, but the S1 looked that fucking good I read all the sales garb and convinced myself the power and reliability was there, so I twisted my own arm into buying one. Sadly it wasn't with the power or reliability which has meant a power seeking trip over a long period of time, and as forgiving as I think I've been with the unreliability issues (not all Buell faults)I need no convincing anymore that an S1W isn't really the fast bike I thought it could be, save putting an Aerocharger on it. What to do next is the all important question. I've been attempting the purchase of a Brutale last week, the only one left for sale in the UK right now, but the retail price £10500 was more than I could raise and it meant selling my Buell cheap to a friend with a proviso to fix her up at my expense after the deal was done. Given the expense of rebuilding the Buell (after I'd sold it) and the cash difference to raise for the balance, I bailed. So I'm rebuilding the Buell anyway and then if the burning desire to enjoy it isn't as great as it use to be, then I suppose I will sell and the Brutale might just have to be the replacement Buell killer. Above all it does have the looks, and the performance is nothing short of awesome for a naked sit-up and beg bugs in the teeth motorcycle. Yes I want a Brutale and that's probably over a Buell S1W which is kinda sad really.
