Hey all, I know many of us have experienced some battery drain with the Erik Buell Racing race ecm. When I park the bike and turn the key off, I immediately turn the key on and then off again and it turns off the fans so they don't drain the battery. I am sure many of you do this already or have another method but I thought I would share what it is that I do. P |

Don't do that. It is momentarily stopping the fans so it has more power to crank over, because it is expecting you to start the bike back up. |

Has the Ecm keeping the fans running ever killed your batt? I just put one in mine and never waited to see how long the fans ran. |

i have a battery tender and hook it up to the bike almost every night so i dont even have to worry about. if u have the luxury of being near an outlet where u park it id highly recommend it. |

I have more of a flat spot in the starter. The battery has never seemed like it doesn't have enough juice, battery tender or not. It just seems like once in a while, I find the spot on the start it doesn't like. Another click and it whirls over. |

Froggy Does this cause any damage to anything? Kc10 fe I noticed a significant drain to the battery since I installed the ECM. The battery seamed to weaken a little more every day since I installed the Erik Buell Racing ecm. Dreso1021 I have never experienced a problem with my charging system until I installed the ecm so, I didn't buy a battery tender. I ride almost daily so the bike was always charged and ready to go. I think that I may get one now though. |

I have always used battery tenders as a JUST IN CASE thing. Now being in the military and not knowing how long til I can ride or extended field excercises its just piece of mind. And i know ive left the ignition on once and the fact it was tendered avoided a huge pain in the @$$ the next morning haha |

On the XB, yes. I honestly don't know if it would cause an issue on the 1125, but why would they put the programming in there in the first place? I can make some logical guesses, but I don't have any data to back anything up. What are your thoughts? |

I suppose it is reasonable to consider that if it causes issues with the XB, it may also create issues with the R. Thanks for your insight guys, I think I will stop with the double click and buy a battery tender. And here I was thinking I was all smart and stuff! lol |

Interesting subject. My fans shut off sooner with the Erik Buell Racing ECM.Anyone know this would happen. |

J_copeland, Probable because most of our bikes that are running the Erik Buell Racing race ECM have experienced a cooler running bike along with better performance. My bike has seen a drop of around 10 degrees. Just my take on it. Bob |

Mike bike runs cooler as well however, the fans stay on much longer than they used to. I think this is the contributing factor to the battery drain. Now I feel like I owe Froggy some money for his therapeutic insight. Thanks a lot doc! LMAO |

I always wondered why the 1125's, being liquid-cooled, leave the fans on momentarily after engine shutoff. For the XB's, yeah: fans staying on to cool the rear cylinder. But the 1125's? The coolant isn't circulating through the cylinder jackets to cool them off ... all I can think of is it's just cooling off the coolant in the radiators. I dunno. Off topic. Haha |

Jeep...you're right. Comparing the xb and the 1125s doesn't work in this situation. How could you just say don't do that with no explanation? And then compare the 1125s cooling system to the xb's. Doesn't make any sense. |

here are a few of my thoughts. fan stay on for the 1125's to help cool off the radiators faster so when a restart does happen, a little less of the residual heat does not have the ambient temp sensor reading as high for start up. yes i know that the fans are blowing the hot air into the sensor. but i figure if you blow the heat off the radiators and let the bike sit, say an hour, the temp sensor would read cooler than if you shut the bike off for an hour without cooling the radiators off for that one minute run time. now as for shorter fan run time with the engine off. it runs for 1 minute unless A)engine temp is below a given value or B) batt voltage is below a given value. i will try to give more info tomorrow as to what the coolant temp and batt voltages are tomorrow. i have some of that data stored on my work laptop. don't qoute me on this, but i am pretty sure the batt voltage and engine temp cutout are the same for both race versions and stock versions of the ecm data. |

In my race ecm the batt voltage cutout is disabled, it can be set to work the same as the stock ecm in tunerpro if you want to. |
