I think posting on the "Bad Weather Bikers" board has been a bad omen for the KCMOB lately. Rain sux. |

Sam...The route you gave me this morning is 383 mi but has several bail out options...The main one being after Push Mountain riding directly back to Eureka Springs via 62 resulting in 312 miles... The Cliff House is only 82 miles from the start going counter clockwise...So it would be 300 miles from the start riding clockwise...Neither would seem to work...Oh well... There is a neat little country store in Harriet, you know the one with the canoe up on it's sign, that is owned by an ex Buffalo Bills/Razorback tight end, that has pretty good fresh made deli sandwiches and fuel at about 175 miles... John's almost certain not to get off early tomorrow so it's going to be a long night for us and we'll probably need to take it a bit carefully on Saturday...We're going to ride Friday night until we can't...See you guys Sunday!!! All, packed and ready to go, just need to get gas and pick up the little boss. Should be out of here at 4 to 4:15 for sure. Sam, I'll call you at 7 and let you know exactly where we are so that you can estimate our time of arrival. Also, you aren't going to believe the rest of the story in regards to the ramp debacle. UUUGGGGHHHHH!!!! to keep it short, I had to fabricate one myself. Thank god for cutting torches, sledge hammers, and drills! Not pretty (but what do you expect out of a 15 minute job) It will get the job done! I'm out of here! SEE YOU GUYS TONIGHT!!! Keith

Wow... Even though Sam forgot to call me as they were leaving his house... guilt must have struck him hard... and he called me after they ordered the food. I must be the Rodney Dangerfield of the Mob!! When I arrived digger bought me a beer... and I forgot the oversight. Not that it was related... as digger said he would buy me a beer as a house warming gift... IT WAS JUST WHAT I WANTED!!! THANKS DIGGER. Once again Sam came to my rescue... and shared his BBQ with me. Which saved me from dumpster diving later behind KC Masterpiece... though I might go back tonight and dumpster dive... as the food is great there. ALSO... not one guy wizzed on my BMW... as I do not ride the XB9S in the rain or on wet streets if I can help it... I BMWed there... I love the ABS brakes in the rain/wet. I really doubt it had any impact that Plaza security was setting up for some weekend activity across the street from where I parked it. Sam did have to rattle my cage a little... YES Sam... I really need all those rear view mirrors... what is wrong with 5 or 6 rear view mirrors???? ...AM/FM radio... GPS... minidisc... FMRS radio... telephone interface... intercom... ??? the satelite disk is on order... I can hardly wait!!! and... whats-his-name was there... it has been so long... I can't remember his name... but I recognized him... you know... Sam's wingman. :-) He said something about two jobs... if that is your story... stick to it... but I swore I saw one of those telephone transponders on his wrist... you know like they use when under house arrest! Everyone let's get together... FREE WINGMAN NOW!!!! ...and I don't know if it had anything to do with me on my BMW... but when I asked if they were going to ride after the meal... they all looked at my BMW... looked at each other... and said no! If it were not for the fact I heard something about alcohol... I would think they were too embarrassed to ride with a guy on a big BMW. jealousy... don't you hate it when it raises it's ugly head??? Thanks for a great break last night... and thanks for the help this weekend... you will be at my apartment Saturday at 7:00AM to help me move... right??? You all are just kidding me about some trip to Arkansas... RIGHT??? Guys... Guys... guys... you are kidding... right??? |

Dennis, you have racerboy Bob to thank for our restraint, with regards to bagging on the Bimmerphile. many of us at the table last night have gotten lessons in humility on more than one occasion from some "old" guy riding das boat, much like yours. as for the embarrased part....re-read the above..... glad you could make it and hope you had a good time. Ken, you're welcome around the mob anytime.....but you'll have to get that bike dirty! |

Yes... BMW motorcycles... both "R" bikes and "K" bikes can be deceptive from their appearance... then add someone who can really put one to the limits (not me)... and WOW. Can you say Autobahn??? There is a reason the high/low beam switch has a rock down position to flash to clear the fast lane. The BMW (mine is a 95 R1000RA) is what got me addicted to horsepower. The first weekend I had the bike, Sharon and I did a big circle on I435 to get the feel of the bike. I rolled out around a big rig... and smoothly rolled open the throttle... in next to no time at all, riding two up, I got this "man I must really be going fast" sensation. I rolled off the throttle and looked down and it was dropping from 115 indicated. Later I asked Sharon if she saw... she corrected me... she said I broke 120... and had I looked before I let off... I would have seen. That was followed by her saying... "Do it again... do it again!!!" then... The day I passed a car riding like a maniac and spun the rear tire at 80+ as I accelerated and rolled over the center line during the pass. I was hooked... MORE POWER, LESS WEIGHT... "Can you help me?" "Yes... sir... you can... wrap up that shiny new XB9S... and order the factory race kit!" I had a great time last night... have a great time in Arkansas!!!! |

Dennis...I "play well with others" most of the time but the one hot button that you can press with me is to be intolerant of most of the "other" forms that motorcycling takes...I am not, as everyone knows, very brand loyal...I'm more dealer and people loyal than anything else...But I purchase what meets my needs at the time...I had already been researching a replacement for Das Boat (2000 R11RT) when I managed to depth charge her last may...And I had pretty much decided on the ST1300 among another R1150RT, K1200GT and FJR1300...The new RT's power brakes were a big neg (too much braking get's me into too much trouble) and the GT's range (although this is the scooter my heart wanted) and the FJR13 just didn't seem to offer the same kind of mile eating capability as the ST13...And then the kicker is the extended seven year, unlimited mileage warranty avail on the ST13...I blew through my 36,000 mile beemer warranty in ten months...So my current stable is a DRZ250, S3T and ST1300...A good friend just took delivery of a 2004 FJR13 and they "fixed" most of my objections plus it's a bunch more sporty so my decision might be different as of now but... To get back to my original point...One of the things that you'll find you're going to love about the MOB is they, like us over here in STL, don't give a hoot what you ride so long as your style (read LONG days) matches up...And anyone who says an XB9 can't go the distance wasn't there when Sam rode his to Deal's Gap last year...And Frank on his M2L (yea, go figure if you've seen Frank)... Well, I'm like a kid before Christmas waiting to get off work and meet with John for the ride this evening... I just talked to Janey at Iron Horse and she was able to get John and I in there tonight and tomorrow so let the partee begin... Welcome to Buellaland! Bob |

OH MY GOD!!!...Not knowing about a Kermit is such a teutonic sacriledge...Mine is strapped on the back seat as we write but it really doesn't like the Honda very much...He'll have to borrow mine the next time he goes to a beemer rally...Speaking of which, the weekend of Oct 10-12 is both the BMW Falling Leaf (Rain???) Rally in Potosi and HSTA's Friends of Freddies Rally in Farmington...Both are right of the cusp of some of our best roads...John and I are going to FOF and we usually manage to get over to Potosi to harass our friends there...Because of these two events always coinciding there are scooters all over south eastern MO that weekend and it's a bit of fun...Of course, the beemer shindig is much bigger... See Ya Tonight! Bob
