Good day to all! i have a question regarding the throttle body on the xb. are the xb9 1and the xb12 the same? the reason i was asking was because if they are, why not get a spare and port and polish it along with smoothing the butterfly? added power is always a good thing, right??? as far as i can tell, they appear to be the same size, internally and externally as well. if anyone knows the answer, i would greatly appreciate the input. thanks!! |

I believe that early 9 TB was slightly smaller than 12 TB, not sure if this carries through all years though. Same with the headers where the 12 header is larger diameter. |

i knew that the headers were larger on the 12 versus the 9. i wasn't sure if the throttle body would be the same or not. i haven't been able to find any technical data online pertaining to differences either. |

I have a 9 and a 12 motor next to each other. The '03 9 engine is a lot smaller, I think the newer 9's had the same as the 12s |

Anyone have a source for porting and polishing and/or dyno numbers to show any gain? |

by best guess would be about a horse or two. not sure on torque, but i'm sure it wouldn't hurt. i did the same thing to the intake on my old 318 dakota and it definitely helped smooth the air out. what about polishing the intake tract? would that create any real gain? like i said, a little here and a little there adds up. just wanting to see if it would be wasted time or not. |

Is it time or money? If you can do it so it is just time, then I say go for it. If it is money because you have to send it out, then probably not worth it for the gains. Slap a 12 TB on there, do some tuning with ECMspy or TunerPro and see what you get. I don't think there is much to be gained unless you change the cams and maybe valves + head work. To see the benefits you would also really need exhaust work which probably includes the 12 header and less restrictive muffler. All of this is going to move the horse power and torque peaks up the RPM range so you better do a complete balance on the crank and might want to lighten it while it is out. i have a 2007 xb12r. i have the race flash on the ecm now. i planned to drop a 1250 kit on the bike when i return. so there will be new cams in place as well. i just wanted to find out if a polished/ported throttle body would make a difference. i have access to the tools required to do the work, so that isn't really an issue. i planned to drop off the reworked throttle body when i have the motor rebuilt. there will be dyno tuning involved, so the hard part will already be done for me. i just don't know how easy it will be to get an 07 12r throttle body. i guess i'll just have to get one and find out. i might have the heads reworked as well, so that might help also. |

If you are going to do that much work, it might be worth getting a TB bored a few mm bigger or just find and buy a larger TB. Didn't the XBRR use a much larger TB? If it did maybe E B R can source one for you. |
