Thanks again Dean. If you hadn't prodded me I'd have shelled out for a new one. New rotor. Yum. The Buell Mechanic over at Roanoke HD/Buell advised me to remove the pads and sand them. Makes perfect sense, but I woulda never thought of it. Thanks Keith. Once again another positive Buell experience. What a difference a good dealership makes. Now to mount the wheel and take a ride. | ||

My dealer is replacing my front rotor, pads and head (steering) bearings...free! Took months of whinning and shit but they are takin' care of me... | ||

Lucky bastards! When I told my dealer the rotor might be warped the guy at the service desk accused me of using it as a stunt bike, doing a lot of stoppies, and refused to even look at it. | ||

It helps to have a two-way level of respect going on with your service manager. I try not to bother him with silly crap and he tries to look after me within the letter of the "law" so far so good. Dean the front brake is perfect. It cured the jackhammer trail braking and I am regaining some confidence now. With the bad rotor I was riding like a fag using my back brake and only resorting to the front brake if engine braking couldn't get r done. It's nice to ride the bike as intended once again. On a separate yet related issue I noticed that dreaded clunk from the front while I was pogoing the front before torqueing down the pinch bolts. Is that clunk really from the steering head bearings? Is this a known (as in bulletin) issue or one of those sometimes it's a this and a sometimes it's a that issue? I never heard it before, but then again I am not usually lifting my bike of the ground and fully extending the forks. Could that sound be coming from some moving parts inside the fork tubes? When I listened to it and repeated it again and again it does not sound like it's coming from the frame neck...it sounds like it's coming from the forks. Any ideas? | ||

It's a very good possibility that it's from the forks, mine have done it for quite some time now. |
