I noticed today when my bike 1125r2008 was off that when hit front break and push down on front end i her a knock. If i push down and release real slow I hear nothing, it is only when i push down and let the shock bouncy back it knocks. Anyone else, i looked and looked but can't see what could be knocking. I can take a video if no one has any ideas. Didn't find anything via search. Doesn't seem major buy it is almost like something is loose somewhere. Kyle |

Normal noise. I can't for the life of me tell you what it is, but it has been happening on mine for 24K miles. Some will say that it is movement in the floating rotor. I can make mine "click" with or without touching the brake, so I am not convinced the rotor has anything to do with it. |

Heard something similar a few weeks ago. Turns out my front brake mounting bolt had come loose. |

I just had another look and it is definatly the break router. I also noticed the the router actually moves when you shake it side to side. I guess that is normal? Interesting setup. Thanks for the feedback. What is the reason the router Ives anyways? |

Hard to say over the internet, but it could be your steering neck bearings needing to be tightened. |

I've got the same on my 10 CR, suspected brakes and steering head bearings etc but after checking everything I suspected the shocks. It was comfirmed when I had the front off and depressed each shock by hand. Turned out coming from right shock ,quite an audible clacking sound. Getting it looked at by the dealer while its in for clutch repairs & harness but it appears to be pretty common |

Kyle, I'm no expert in this category; however, I had a similar noise and feel on my 08 1125R. A "clunky" noise and feeling of rotor warp. Under warranty, H-D service used a rotor repair kit. It looks like the mounting spacers and bolts were replaced. All is well, now. My guess is that the rotor continues to rotate forward to a hard stop as the brakes are applied. The hard stop against the rotor mounts may be the source of the noise. Just a thought. |

If you are a heavy rider, and brake hard often, it apparently accelerates the wear on the steering head bearing. If it clicks under hard braking, AND clicks when you hit a bump that compresses the forks significantly W/O brakes, and it still clicks, then it's the bearings. Another indicator is if it clicks when taken all the way to lock left or right. R |

I too am experiencing the "click" at the steering head. What's the proper procedure for checking/tightening the steering head bearing? |

I've posted this stuff a bunch of times. If at a stop you can push and pull on the bars and get a click/clunk you need to re-torque the steering head. If when braking you get "clack clack clack clack" as you are slowing town, or your drive bushings on the rotor are anything but perfectly perpendicular, your rotor and bushings are worn. These are wear items, and do need to be serviced periodically. |

So after further inspection I think this is my issue as well... Can someone help explain what bolt's are what in these instructions? I have the service manual but it doesn't have pictures telling me what bolts are what just the name. I the end I expect I have to tighten the middle silver bolt.
The instructions Ok here's the procedure to re-torque the head bearings. Put it on a stand or jack it up. The Bottom line is the front-end can not be touching the ground or bearing any weight. By that I mean you cannot use a front stand that lifts by the triple tree. I use a scissor jack under the jack points. 1. Remove the steering stem pinch fastner at the upper triple tree. 2. Loosen the steering stem capnut and back off several turns. 3 Remove the pairs of triple clamp pinch bolts (lower fork pinch bolts on each side). 4. Tighten the capnut to 51.5-56.9 Nm (38-42 ft lbs) 5. Turn the front wheel all the way to the right. 6. Hook a spring scale into the front axle. 7. Pull the front wheel to center position using the spring scale and note the resistance measured on the scale. (1-7 lbs is ok) More than that and the bearings need to be replaced. 8. Install steering head pinch fastner and tighten to 27-30 Nm (20-21 ft lbs). 9. Install and tighten the lower triple clamp pinch fastners to 27-30 Nm (20-21 ft lbs). If you don't have a suitable scale, you can just skip the resistance test, but make sure it turns freely side to side before taking it off the jack. Most Important: Be very very careful tightening the pinch fastners. On the XB's I've heard of several folks breaking their triple tree doing this. |

My steering head bearing got so bad it was making noise when I would set the bike up from being on the kick stand. I took it in and HD replaced the bearing. |

I had another close look a few mins ago and put my head right next to the brake. It does seem to be coming from the break and the fact that the router is floating (as in it moves if you shake it back and forth). Someone else mentioned this caused a knocking noise. The only way I can tell forsure is pop off the break caliper and see if it still makes the knock. Saying that if someone can tell me what bolts are what I can also try to tighten the neck also. |

If I hold the rear brake and bounce the front, I get no clunk. Figure that one out. |

So I am stummped, each time I check this out I flip from thinking it is the break to the front suspension lose and or bearing. I only have 3000 miles on the bike. I am uploading a video so you guys can see and hear what I see. Here are the pics of the brakes. I only get the router to move side to side and not front to back. It also only seems to move 1.16 or 1/8.

Mine does the same thing and it's not the head bearings. It is said to be inside the forks. Step on your rear brake while bouncing and see if it makes a difference. |

In the second vid it became alot more audible between the forks near the intake and seems to be on the decompession stroke like mine. I can see why your concerned. Mines not that bad but I still think its in the shock although it does sound like its resenating through the frame abit. Pulling the front axle and maybe the wheel if needed off should confirm it by compressing each shock individually. |

Same noise mine has, noise is inside the fork, clearance between the fork bushing and tube. Considered "normal" but annoying. Had my forks replaced under warranty for a metal contamination problem and a little later the noise came right back. Also checked the neck bearings and preload but still is the same. |

Ok thanks guys, I guess I don't worry about this noise then. It seems common. Seems weird that it actually does it but if other's have the same issue then I'll keep on trucken... Yah the break has not been used much, I got the bike off an 83 year old guys who bought it new, he didn't ride it much. He just upgrades to a bmw s100rr :} Thanks for the feedback. Kyle |

So just to confirm, this knock in the fork happens to everyone? It is quite loud. Has buell given a reason for the knock? |

My buddy told me that it was in the steering head and that was the fix. He must have misread the thread on the fix! My 08 makes the noise as well, not as bad though. I am still concerned. |

non of those thoughts on the matter are correct, the reason it makes that noise is your bike isn't the right color, everyone knows the white ones are the fastest and the non-clickers. |
