I've all but resurrected my '99 X1 purchased earlier last summer - thanks to many of you (saved me about 2 grand in repairs I've been able to pull off in my own garage). Now that she and I have gotten to know one another, I'm itching to push her a little harder. Problem is, at above about 4.5K RPM she wants to shake me out of the seat. This may be exaggerated, but its enough to make me get out of the throttle. I've been up to the redline a handful of times, but dont want to shake the bike apart. Is this "high" RPM vibe normal? I've replaced the rear iso's and inspected the front - which seem to be in good shape. I've also done a thorough bolt check -all seems well. She feels beautiful at cruising speed - I just feel like I should be the only uncomfortable one at hard acceleration when RPM's exceed 5-6K, not the bike. I only have other v-twin cruisers to compare the ride too. Do I keep pushing her or do I need to pursue the bad vibes? | ||

No that is not normal.. You got a problem you need to check the fron ISO again. | ||

I feel like mine is like that... I wont go above 6k... and pulling hard at 5k is ridiculous. | ||

Definitely not normal. In fact mine ('00 X1) smooths out once you go above 3K and remains that way pretty much up to 6K. From 6K to redline it does get a bit shaky but I hardly ever go that far up the tach. | ||

My M2 feels better the faster I go. I prefer to cruise at 4,500 rpm. | ||

My 99 X1 softens out at 3000 rpms. Above 3500+ its smooth as glass and if it wasn't for the exhaust, I wouldn't know the bike had an engine. | ||

I suggest you take a close look at the muffler front mount. Do you have the original mount or the 2001 style Y-mount? A bad mount will send vibration to the footpegs above 80 MPH. Mark | ||

Muffler mount is a good idea. But something is not right .My x-1 under full throttle pulled hard and relatively smooth (for a v-twin) all the way to redline. | ||

Things I would look at: Carefully Inspect Front Iso (top, and bottom) Rear Iso's, Front Mount, Tire Pressure and overall condition of tire, Stearing head Bearings, checking front forks for leaks. Good Luck! Like everyone has already said, you do have something going on! Being Rubber mounted, Buells vibrate alot at and near Idle but the faster you go the less the engine vibrates and the smoother the ride! | ||

I do have the old front muffler mount - this may be the culprit as its already shaken my V&H muffler to pieces. I needed an excuse to get new exhaust. I'll be checking over the front iso again, as well. Thanks guys! | ||

The old muffler mounts were notorious for breaking down and then transmitting significant vibration. Mark | ||

I have to leave my front exhaust mount loose as other wise it forms cracks in the exhaust. |
