Anyone care to translate this for me? On the 1125R “If we had raced the 1125RR as an 1190 superbke first and then come out with the 1125R, with the higher higher handlebars and the bigger fairing and the saddlebags — which is really what that bike as, a sports touring model, but things got mixed around by management — would it have sold better? No freaking doubt. I will go to my grave believing that we made a mistake.”} |

It means Erik felt an 1190 should of came out from day one, then came out with an 1125 sport touring/Uly type bike. He feels that going that route would of resulted in more sales. Personally, I agree.

So, he thinks the 1125R isn't a good race bike? Or even a trackday bike? That doesn't necessarily inspire confidence. I understand what he's saying...but still... |

Funny - I'd translate that as: "which is really what that bike was, a sports touring model"... referring to the 1125R. |

From my post on the 1190RS thread back in mid-September (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/594317.html?1284693688): >> So it stands to reason that the 1190RS would be comparable to a stock 1098R, which has an MSRP of $39,995. >> From Erik's mouth a few weeks ago: >> It’s going to be low volume production. I mean tiny... It’ll be much like if you get a 1098R or a bike like that, it comes with a lot of good stuff. >> What do I win? Go back and read that thread, after we heard from the horse's mouth, its pretty funny now to read some of the speculation that was bandied about. |

You guys need to re-read that whole section. The majority of that section is directed at "what went wrong" and, "what happens next". I seriously don't think Erik is saying that the 1125r is a terrible bike/engine combo. I think what he was trying to say is that other people got in the way of what was SUPPOSED to be out there, and it would have been nice to get all the data and refinement done on a bike like the 1190R done first....THEN release the 1125r engine as a sport touring type of bike. I'm pretty sure he meant to say that the 1125r engine would have been his ideal fit for an amazing sport touring bike, while the 1190r was what they initially envisioned for racing. I could be wrong...just my guess. |

Well Froggy, your guess in that thread about direct sales was certainly wrong. |

So, he thinks the 1125R isn't a good race bike? Or even a trackday bike? That doesn't necessarily inspire confidence. I understand what he's saying...but still... I think your taking that out of context. The grips aren't torture rack low (clipons are easy to find if that's what you want). From a 'class' racing standpoint an 1125cc doesn't neatly fit into any class. It gives up HP to bikes that are near the 1200cc limit for twins, or the I4 liter bikes. Even still, Geoff managed some very good finishes while being down on power. The 1125R has a stout motor, and the handling is top notch. Just this weekend, I was able to walk away from a friend's R6 in the twisties at a beyond-knee-dragging-pace. A dedicated 1190 track bike would result in lower lap times, but the 1125 is no slouch. |

Tpoppa 'beyond knee dragging...' does this R6 normally leave you in the dust when you are w/o your 1125? |

We tend to push handling limits, not crazy fast top speeds. My 1125R can walk away from an R6 pilot skilled enough to safely drag knee. My other bike is a Z750S...a decent handling machine, but it can't hang with an R6 in the corners. |

I've always appreciated how comfortable the 1125R is AND how sharp it is on the track. To be completely honest; given the choice between the new 1190RS (race oriented) and my 1125R (sport touring oriented apparently LOL) I'd stick with my 1125.. I love the track, but my 'sport tourer' can leave other race reps for dead on a closed circuit. Even on the open road it can hang easily with liter bikes. Would I then sacrifice the all round capabilites of my current steed?? - hmmm.. I'm being honest with ego when I say 'I don't think so'. I don't NEED the 1190RS - my good ol'1125 is good for now. |

Even if we weren't talking about a bike I already own... A 375lb bike, comfortable enough for LONG days in the saddle, with razor sharp handling and 125-ish RWHP. Sign me up!!! That's what Honda should have done instead of that overweight pig of a VFR1200. |

My take on it is that all that Erik was trying to say is that the 'design by committee' attitude at HD forced the design progression more to the conservative side as opposed to his vision of "race on Sunday, sell on Monday". The 1125R is a great bike from a function standpoint, but racing domination would have made for a good marketing tool if HD would have let him play all the cards in his sleeve. |

What is "beyond-knee-dragging-pace"? Dragging elbow? I seriously don't understand that...I get you're trying to say that you're "fast" on the street but that makes no sense. I've tracked the 1125R 10 times this year and each time it's felt like a track bike. All I'm saying is that it's pretty to market the bike as a race-oriented, race-ready bike when it was probably designed to be a sport-tourer. And if the 1125R is Buell's idea of a sport tourer...I'd love to ride the 1190RS on the track! And that 375lb dry weight is a bit of an embellishment IMO. LOL - well that was quick, it normally takes a couple of years for a full on sportsbike to be re-categorised as a sports-tourer. My other bike (a ZX9R-C1) was a full on sports bike when introduced but is now categorisd as a sports-tourer, my old Exup went the same way, and my GPz1100... and now my 1125R LOL TBH, I don't mind what it's described as, it's still awesome, and has plenty of performance for the street which is where mine will spend 90% of its time. |

From the Motorcycle-USA head-to-head test of the 1125R vs. ZX-6R vs. RSV1000R: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/9/3317/Motorcycle-Ar ticle/2009-Daytona-SportBike-Comparison.aspx The 1125R was about a half-second faster a lap than the new for 2009 ZX-6R, Big Piston Fork and all. Sports-tourer indeed! |
