Took a weekend trip from Providence RI down to Gettysburg PA on my 1125 and had a great time.

My internet motorcycle club meets down there each year, and there is a vintage motorscooter rally the same weekend, so its always a good time.

Somewhere on 84 our group of motorcycles overtook a photographer friend of mine on his way to the scooter event, and he grabbed a shot of me as we went by- you can see his silver Tacoma reflected in my fairing.

Givi bags, old (Firebolt) tank bag, Baldwin seat, Knight pegs, grips and heaters from American Sport Bike, and I was quite comfortable... although I never knew until now that I look kind of 'big' for the bike!

Thank you Erik for making this bike. It kicks ass. I hope the future holds lots more rides as much fun as this one!

Nice.

I rode 650+ miles on Sunday through some excellent twisties in SE OH and WV. I was pretty comfortable.

btw, how did you mount the hard bags?

@Tpoppa: the Givi mounts were done by a friend of mine who is a super fabricator. The end result is simple but the execution was elaborate. They are ludicrously solid.

@Avalaugh: I'm 6'4" .

Anything's possible for enough money, but we didn't do it with production in mind, like making jigs and fixtures.

You would have to be willing to delete your passenger pegs and cut two holes in the seat undertray for the rear mount, which runs through the seat latch part of the subframe.

If you can get ten people together who want one, he can probably be talked into it, otherwise, it would be wicked spendy.

I've been thinking of getting a Ventura Tail Pack for my 1125R, but I would MUCH rather have side cases.

There must be 9 others that want side cases : )

just checked out the interview at hell-for-leather

http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2010/10/erik-bue ll-on-the-1190rs-ibm-moon-suits-and-the-future-of- the-american-sportsbike/

and this jumped off the page at me:

“If we had raced the 1125RR as an 1190 superbike first and then come out with the 1125R, with the higher handlebars and the bigger fairing and the saddlebags — which is really what that bike as, a sports touring model, but things got mixed around by management — would it have sold better? No freaking doubt. I will go to my grave believing that we made a mistake.”

hah!

You could always opt for the 1125CR-T

It is possible to do this without losing the passenger peg brackets/pegs ... And without permanently modifying the bike.

Believe me tattoo'd, I soaked up everything you and CC had to share before beginning, and I was grateful for the information. We all have our personal preferences. My setup is also completely reversible except for the holes in the undertray, and I have a new one in the box ($27 part) if it is needed.

Pattio - I wasn't knocking your choice to sacrifice the rear peg brackets, just pointing out to others that may not have seen CC's or my setup that you don't have to.(CC did his long before me and some didn't see his until I posted about mine, including me)

Honestly I think them Givi bags are a good cosmetic match to the 1125, for me they were too small to warrant going through the trouble of fabricating the brackets and making a great looking bike look just a little less great, haha (let's be honest- none of us put bags on because it looks good, I figured if I'm going to put bags on I might as well get the most storage space I can- hence the Uly bags ... that and I have this wierd habit of using only Buell parts as much as possible (I do this with cars and my other bikes as well) in hopes of it looking like it could have been built that way.)

I do have one question about your setup compared to the other 3 hard bag equipped 1125's talked about recently ... your cornering clearance. Your bags are really low, and while I know the Givi bags are narrower - I wonder if your cornering clearance has been sacrificed by having the bags mounted so low. Do you have any pics from the rear - would be good to show that to the people considering doing a setup similar to yours.

If you want a better look at my rear...

I suppose clearance could be an issue for some, but for me, bags-on means 'tour mode' and testing the limits isn't my inclination (heh)

I can respect that ... I said the same thing when I did mine... but the opposite happened when I did my 800 mile camping trip ... when you hit 'those' roads, sometimes you can't help yourself!!

i am sorry to say that has to be the ugliest thing you could possibly do to a super bike, its a racer not a cruiser, buy a bmw or something and of course these are the same types of people who complain about everything on the bike, well you should have bought a different kind of bike, crazy, well it just makes my virgin cr worth more!

CR's are great .. But they aren't superbikes... And it will be a loooong time before any CR is worth 'more' ...

And from the horses mouth in regards to the 1125, you might want to read from the link above .. Be sure to tell Erik Buell how it would have been the ugliest thing he could have done to an 1125 as well.

(http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2010/10/erik-bue ll-on-the-1190rs-ibm-moon-suits-and-the-future-of- the-american-sportsbike/#more-10729)

If I wanted a BMW I would have bought one ... I wanted another Buell so I bought one as I'm sure is why Pattio has a Buell and not a BMW... And my CR wasn't changed permanently (It's sitting in my driveway right now looking just like every other CR ... Bags go on when needed) and neither has Pattio's R.. Both are reversible ... And even if it was a permanent change, who cares? Do what you want to your bike .. We'll do what we want with ours ....

I'm also sorry that you had to say that.

I'm sorry that looks are the most important thing to you.

I'm sorry that you thought you saw a 'complaint' anywhere in this thread. Looks like people enjoying their bikes to me.

I'm sorry you don't think there are anything out there but 'racers' and 'cruisers'. Re-read the quote from Erik freakin' Buell.

I'm sorry you think 'virgin' is a desirable quality in a motorcycle.

But mostly I'm sorry that you don't know the Golden Rule.

Oh come on now ... Why delete your original post ?

Ugly is your attitude, so I guess you're right .. You do know ugly.... And I'm glad we hang out with a different crowd ... I don't think you'd keep up- seems you're more about the looks of your bikes rather than the ride ...

I ride always, good or bad weather... Not just when it's convenient, or to try to look cool ... So I make my bikes versatile .. And if you read any of the posts as opposed to just looking at pictures and making typical Internet smartass type posts you would have seen me say, and I quote "let's be honest, none of us put bags on because it looks good" ... I am not a fair weather rider .. Sacrificing looks for a purpose is worth it if it means I can ride more ...

And I'll pass .. You can enjoy the square-dance... I'll be on one of my bikes riding

i really dont want to give you ole farts something to stew on, chill out, ugly up your bike, alter them all you want, when 3000 cr's equal less than 500, mine will be worth more, and a super bike is define as 1000 liters and 175 mph top speed, thats what a cr is capable of doing and iam sure your touring bike with saddle bags and super cool wind screen will do that too right? i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Thanks for turning my 'I like my bike and thank you Erik' thread into your personal troll food. I don't know what it is about saddlebags that twists your tits so bad, but to each his own.

I'll start saving up now for that 1000 liter kit so I can go 175 mph. With 998.875 more liters than I have now I hope for improved midrange flexibility, although I imagine mileage may suffer. Maybe I can carry some extra fuel in my... oh no!

Something I pondered even before the 1125R hit the roads.

Instead of change my beautiful Loretta tho, I got a whole Uly.

I think I have the perfect motorcycle combo now.

Have you ever owned a bike with hard bags? It's one of those things that you have no idea how much you'll use.

and a super bike is define as 1000 liters and 175 mph top speed

An 1125, as you may have guessed, is not 1000 liters, but I'll give you the bennefit of the doubt on that typo.

However, a CR will also not do 175mph. A CR, topped out in 6th gear at 10,500 rpm is doing 158.7mph. An R is 'only' capable of 172.3mph - this is gearing limited, nothing to do with drag or power.

You sound like an idiot.

quick detatch, and I can run any Givi Monokey side case I want:

Damn XL12, that is indeed an extremely clean and simple setup. I have no regrets about my apocalypse-ready brackets (esp. because that's how my friend likes to do things and I value his help) but I say well-done to your version. Bags on (clap clap) bags off!

I am considering a Kawi Connie for some real sport touring.

If you can "sport-tour" on a bike that weighs 689 lbs with a tank of gas in it, then god bless you.

I'm giving serious thought to the Sprint GT, but at 590 lbs it has me a little worried about its heft.

Harlan - try a Uly.
Every time I throw a leg over this thing I love it more.

Took a short lunch today, had a smoke and chased prairie dogs for 10 minutes.
I'm starting to explore fire roads in the mountains.

I can't imagine life without Loretta, but I HAVE to keep this Uly!!
