My low fuel warning lamp is acting crazy. It goes on and off without respect to actual fuel level. Even sometimes after I have just gassed up. Sometimes three or four times on my 30 Min ride to and from work. ? (Message edited by Sticks on October 13, 2010) |

Oh joy, it appears that I will have to yank the fuel pump for this one. |

Mine just seems to stay on pretty much all the time. It goes off for a couple of minutes, but then it's back on. I have read about the wiring problems inside the tank, but was also told that if you disconnect the lead to the fuel pump and the light stays on then the problem is not in the tank. When I disconnect mine, the light stays on for about minute then goes off. I am not sure if this means it is the tank or not. When you disconnect the lead, should the light go off immediately if the problem is in the tank? |

Did anybody find out what caused this problem? I'm playing around with an 06 XB12R and it is doing the same thing. Light comes on when it pleases and goes out after a bit, several times on a ride. Thanks |

It is the fuel level sensor, part of the fuel pump. You need to take out the fuel pump to get to it. (Tons of fun) |

Replace the sensor |

I did take the sensor out and replace it but upon removal I discovered the sensor probably wasn't the problem. The wire on the assembly that the sensor plugs into had chaffed on the aluminum mounting body. I re-routed the wiring and insulated that part and haven't had a problem since then. Plus I will note that the pump can be removed without pulling the swing arm. Just had to disconnect the shock, caliper, and of course remove the wheel. Replace the fuel pump o-rings while you are in there and check the fuel filters. |

i had some weird issues with the fuel light on my '05 XB12Scg... the basic problem was that the light would never come on to warn me before i ran out of fuel. two dealerships couldn't fix it. one even replaced the whole fuel pump assembly. i ended up solving it almost by accident. it was a poor connection between the harness and the dash module, under the flyscreen. i guess no one even thought to check that. |

Well I guess I'll check the under flysreen connections 1st because this just happened to me this week. Yup ran out of gas while turning into the parking lot at job. I lucked out on that one--coasted into my parking spot, lol. The other thing I noticed is I seem to have lost my ability to reset the trip meters. The main ODO is still workin though. I've got a 2010 XB12ss and have never had an issue with it til this. I only have 7*** miles on her ... |
