OK, well...I've had a Buell race muffler on the S2 since I did the Thunderstorm conversion, and I love the way it sounds. Bassy, deep rumble. But...I'm considering taking it to BTF4, and it would blow my ears out on a trip that long. So, I pulled the supertrapp down and reinstalled it. 24 discs with an endcap was WAAAY louder than the race muffler. More midrange noise as opposed to low frequency. Halfway through the ride, I pulled out 12 discs and put it back together with the endcap. Muuuuch better, I can actually hear wind as well as the exhaust She's running pig-rich, but I can tune that once I finalize my disc count. And, as an added bonus, I now have a loose race muffler to go with the brand new race header I got from E B R for the M2L Gonna pull it apart, repack it with some steel wool (and figure out what's rolling around in there), and finish race-i-fying the M2L! As novel as a bone-stock tuber exhaust is...I can't even hear to shift the damn thing lol. |

Joe, are you running a Mikuni on the S2? If so, I would love to compare notes on Supertrapp discs, needle and jets. I need to get back to the S2 and I don't want to go back to the 21 - 24 discs that it's set up for now. Let me know where you end up on the discs - I'll bet you'll find a sweet spot on the sound with 12 or fewer. |

Nope, stock CV with a thunderslide kit. I never did like the feel of a Mik. Too "on-off" for my tastes. I want to repack before I make a final disc count...but will definitely keep the board posted on progress |

Joe some-day for S2,and HRS 42 When I get Thunderstorm Heads, pistons will use this as header and muff riveted and safety-cabled and welded tab for header support. What is your opinion? It,s the closest think I can come up with for race header. (Message edited by ebutch on October 03, 2010) |

I ran the Buell version of the IDS supertrapp on my '99 M2 for a couple years. Great pipe, very tunable, awesome sound. What's that, an S1 header? Or S1W? Looks too big to be a 2" collector...before you marry yourself to the idea, do a test-fit - as my heat shield swap has proven (and the other "race header" thread), the primaries are shaped differently. Should clear the frame OK, but might not work with the S2 aircleaner or lowers. When I did the T-storm conversion I did pistons, heads, X1 stock cams, and the Buell race ECM for S1W (had to get a plug adapter from Drag Specialties). She's a verrry happy bike Still run the stock S2 header, 2" collector pointed to the back; I used an auto 2" to 2.5" adapter for the race muffler. |

Careful with a 95/96 race module if you have thunderstormed. The early module has too much spark advance for the upped compression of the thunderstorm top end. DAMHIK. If you thunderstorm, use a THUNDERSTORM race module, even if it doesn't match the chassis/model of bike. |

Hey Joe, if you want to "officially" race out the M2L, I've got a spare Race Ignition for the 2002 M2's. =) |
