Purchased a bottle of Star Tron fuel treatment on Saturday, (www.startron.com). Literature claims it will stabilize and prevent phase separation in E-10 fuel, clean injectors, burn ethanol more efficiently and is for use in motorcycles. Recommend first time dose is 1 oz per 3 gallons of fuel. Poured a little over 1 oz into 4.4 gallons of fuel. After 20-25 miles bike started running a little rough. After 35 miles it was surging between 1500-2000 RPM at idle, lots of popping and farting. At cruise bike did not run the best but there was little surging, Connected up to ECMSpy when I arrived home. Trouble codes stated o2 sensor always lean. AFV was 117, (it was 101 last week). EGO Voltage was fluctuating between 0.0 and 0.2 volts. In ECM Runtime EGO Correction was 16.9%. On this bikes ECM the o2 sensor voltage is configured between 0.41 and 0.61, which is stock. I pumped the remaining 2+ gallons of gas from the bike and found no sign of water, sludge or phase separation. Gas was clear. Poured 4 gallons of fresh gas in. Took a 20 mile test spin. No improvement in performance. ECMSpy readings remained the same. Reset AFV to 100%. Set AFV Min & Max to 100%. Turned the o2 sensor OFF and reset TPS. Took another test spin with the same results. I purchased this bike used with under 2000 miles late last summer. At 2500 miles I installed a 4-wire Bosch heated NB o2 sensor, PN 15730. When I poured the treatment in, the bike had just under 4000 miles, (my riding this summer was limited due to back surgery). Just prior to pouring this stuff in the bike was running perfectly. I won’t be doing much riding for the next several months and thought this stuff sounded superior to Sta-Bil. With the ECMSpy o2 voltage readings I suspect the o2 sensor is dead. Because the bike also ran poorly after the AFV & TPS were reset and the o2 sensor turned off, I also suspect it gummed up the injectors. What do you want to bet when I call Star Tron tomorrow it will be buyer beware? | ||

I have used STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment in every gasoline engine I own for about two years now... never had a problem. | ||

You know I have never put a fuel additive in my bike, how ever the other day my little hunk of junk blazer was making a little bit of a rattle from the engine some were I put some seafoam in the oil and some in the gas and about an hour or 2 of driving that noise went a way and has not been back since. | ||

I think I'm going to do a Seafoam in my crank case oil this fall and see if it reduces the lifter noise or makes it worse. Got to be one or the other. | ||

Seafoam in the fuel and some in the intake with it running work great i like puting it in every 4 fills due to the crappy gas | ||

I'm more of an :if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type. I have used regular Sta-Bil for about 20 years, but only when I think the gas may be around for 1 month or more in the can or tank. Never had a fuel related problem in that time with bikes from 1973 to 2006 vintage and sometimes stored as long as 6 month out of the year (with full tanks to prevent rust in those with metal tanks). |
