Should any oil filter for the Sportster 1200 also work on the Buell or did they go to a fancy high flow thing? The nearest shops I have to work with are guys that work on Harleys or do custom bike builds, I don't think I have anyone local that ever stocked Buell parts. |

Use the one for the Dyna (big twin) motors. It is longer and gives you a bit more capacity, which is never a bad thing with these. Kilroy |

I used a FL1A and it worked great, just make sure you use a worm clamp and safety wire to make sure it doesn't unwind itself (DAMHIK). |

Ditto on the chrome Dyna filter edit - Dyna filters are made in the U.S.A as well (Message edited by scott_in_nh on September 30, 2010) |

Napa PS1214 is the same as the long Dyna, and it is U.S. made. PS1225 if you must have chrome but that is the short filter version long one may be PS1224? (Message edited by Blackm2 on September 30, 2010) |

I put a K&P engineering oil filter on my X1 (and on my FatBoy and StreetGlide). You just wash them in gasoline, it's the last filter you'll ever buy (it comes in different finishes as well). http://www.kandpengineering.com/S4.shtml |

IMHO, the WAL-MART Super Tech ST8A(BLACK)is the best oil filter for my 1997 S3T ... Have a 110,384.7 mile as of the last ride ... Also run a return line oil filter ... |

This subject is just as bad as an oil debate lol. I like my Purolator PL30001 though. It's massive. |

local shop wouldn't sell me their universal oil filter because it didn't have the check valve. Gave me a part number for a Purolator PureONE filter and i installed that. No leaks and oil is flowing best I can tell. Although it doesn't look that great since it's an ugly yellow filter, but at this point the goal is simply to get the bike running so I'm ok with that. |

While every body is discussing which OIL FILTER to use and what color to paint it ... Ever think about how high a micron filter it is ??? If the filter is too high a micron filter it will cause your oil pressure light to come on or glow ... |

NAPA / WIX is a very good oil filter and directly cross matches (in both Buell and Dyna filters). HD isn't a bad quality filter either. Go to your local NAPA shop and they'll get you hooked up. Just stay FAR away from Fram and Pennzoil - they are the worst filters on the market. |

I've heard Purolator does not recommend their pure one filters for motorcycles. I bought one on sale, gave it some thought, and left it on the shelf. Anyone use PureOne filters and have any luck? I know they're top quality. |

The oil filtration requirements of these engines are really basic - the bottom end of these bikes are very similar to two strokes and they don't run with ANY filtration. This one is really simple - use a quality oil and quality filter AS RECOMMENDED by the manufacturer. There... no worries. |
