First off great forum
I am considering trading my 01 cbr600f4, for a 08 1124r, plus some cash i should add... I am in Canada. The bike has all the recalls replacements, it has 4k on it. I read a whack of info on this bike and can't seem to forget about all the issues I am seeing, especially the stator. I am sure that is an expensive part and now buell is dead it may be hard to get in the future. I should add that the bike is off warranty and i can't purchase the extended.
Is the stater gong to blow eventually? Can i avoid it? What do you think this bike is worth in canada?

Thanks for the feedback in advance
Kyle

The 08's have a different stator that doesn't melt down like the 09's.

08's are fine, 09,10's have stator issues.. I have an 09CR w/ 5700 miles, it looks like I will be getting my second stator soon, electric's are getting flaky again.

Not sure about the 1124R..... but I don't think the stator is an issue on the '08 1125R! I haven't had an issue with mine other than the parts i've been waiting a month for to fix my clutch weep (might be in around mid Oct.).

I'm also in Canada and have an '08 1125R I bought as a wreck. Its been bullet proof, with no updates, recalls or otherwise done. The one modification I strongly recommend (almost a necessary upgrade really) is the E-B-R Ecm.

I used to be in the business of selling used sportbikes all over Canada; with that knowledge of the Canadian market I'd put an '08 1125R's value right around the $7000-$8000 mark. We didn't experience the same drastic level of 'fire sales' the USA did and our Buells have held their value better up here (western Canada especially). I hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, i am surprised at the low cost of an 08, I feel my 01 with 20k in mint shape and bran new tires and breaks is well worth 4500 so 3k is tops i will add to a trade. Seemscheap but that is what the market says i guess

Personally, I think its a great trade. I have an 08 1125R and have experienced very little issues with it. I have the Erik Buell Racing ECM and the bike runs great and if you are looking for a little more power over what you have now, it is certainly a hell of an upgrade. Especially if you add the ECM and KEDA exhaust!

Do it! I unloaded an '03 gsxr1000 for my 09 1125R and have no regrets.

Have you ridden one yet? I'm torn between suggesting that you do so first as the power delivery of a twin is different to an IL4 and you might not like that...

On the other hand the 1125 makes fantastic power pretty much everywhere so if you do ride one you'll probably end up loving it!

As mentioned above the 08 has no stator issues, it outupts a little less power (the stator not the motor) so you may not want to run every electrical accessory known to man off it, but it'll handle the majority of stuff you'd want to plug in and be more reliable than some of the 09s have been.

If it's to be your only bike you may want to just think about the potential for backorder parts, but that's just one small consideration to factor in..

I did drive it and do like the power delivery. It has heated grips, I may try and get some led signals to lower the power draw to be sure. Do plan to hook anything up outside of that. It does have the battery tether line, how often show I plug it in each night?
Great forum lots of good feedback.

Your probably mistaking the accessory plug for a battery tether line - notwithstanding. an '08 doesn't need to be plugged in anyways. I've left mine for months at a time and it fires right up.

Actually it probably is a battery tender plug he's seeing. Many dealers install them on all their bikes, such as the one mine was bought from.

As far as how often to plug in, my rule is if it's in the garage it's plugged in. It can't hurt, and it'll extend your battery life.

The stator may be OK, but the Voltage Regulator is still a potential point of failure.

I have a 2008 1125R with 60,436 miles on it and have been encountering the same over-voltage situation as many of the 2009+ owners, it just seems to be taking longer to fail.

I'm sure the 2009+ stator upgrade exasperates the issue, but it would seem that the Voltage Regular is insufficient or inadequate for these bikes, regardless of year.

Wow that is some serious miles. Nice work.
I saw somewhere the idea of putting a heat sync on the regulator and or moving it to a different place. Anyone have any thoughts on that to avoid this issue?

Relocating with a heat sink and fan is one approach among those being tested.

Really it's too early to know what is the best solutions, but that's definitely a better option than the stock configuration.

Also being investigated is a MOSFET style Voltage Regulator.
