I spotted a red CR traveling south on 360 (near Division) in Arlington, TX this morning - around 9:10am.

Anyone here?

I guess it would depend on where everyone is, that wants to meet of course. I'm in Plano. Don't mind driving 30-45 minutes.

I'd meet up. I'm pretty busy these days, however. Let me know. I'd meet at a track, but I won't take it out on a track. My insurance wouldn't cover it, and I'd want to go too fast.

I'm good for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also Saturday mornings if y'all want to ride.

I don't have the gear to get on a track at the moment.

Eh, I'm done with the street. Too many cops, cruisers, dogs and distractions. And, it's just not fun around here. Arkansas, maybe. Texas? Blah.

PM: Just ride with your head on straight and the track isn't any more dangerous than the street. I assure you if you haven't been on one before you aren't just going to come out and be going that fast unless you are some kind of gifted god of motorcycles.

And, what insurance doesn't cover a track day? Other than progressive, I believe they all do as long as it's not a race.

As for gear: I think y'all are just as crazy for riding on the street in anything less than at least a nice 2-pc cordura, which would be suitable for a member day. btw: $500 leathers are cheap compared to skin grafts.

I'll be at ECR on the 9th and 10th, weather permitting. Y'all are welcome to come out if you like.

If we meet in town -- I'll be in my old beat up truck. ; )

Dairyland is the best I've found for Buells, though I'm actually on All State now since I have a car and house with them, and for liability only it's dirt cheap. I think I pay less than $180 a year for three 1125r bikes, so they are definitely worth a call.

I'm letting the tags and insurance expire on my bikes this year, though. No sense paying for street licensing for vehicles used on private courses only...

Jdugger, I said I'd WANT to go too fast. I never said I had the ability. That clip art is probably not the best choice, but it cracked me up. That's why I shy away. I feel like I'm starting the conversation where you, the experienced racer, try to talk me, the experienced street rider, into racing on the track. I have been riding on the street since probably 1984. I am 42 years old. I am old enough to know I'm not bullet proof. I like to ride VERY cautiously when in traffic. I like to ride in a spirited fashion when on a back road. I would not call it racing. I am pushing my bike nowhere near its limits. I keep it within the limits in case something unexpected happens. I can go faster. I don't want to. I did that when I was younger. I'm probably lucky to be alive! My favorite ride so far was through the Ozark mountains in Arkansas last spring. I was leaning more than I was upright. I actually have a fear that if I start riding on a track, I will be pushing myself to go faster and faster until I find my limits by wadding up myself and the bike. I know my limits on the street. I am having fun. I bought the Buell to have fun.....mission accomplished.

Not trying to talk you into racing. I just ride at the track instead of the street. More corners, more fun : )

BTW, I'm 35, and a *NOVICE* racer, so I'm hardly fast in the grand scheme of things.

Lots of guys at the track are older... in fact, most are. Typical member day I'm easily the youngest one there. It's just guys hanging out, enjoying riding, and having a good time without cops, cruisers, and unpredictable pavement.

We don't race on member days. Just go ride...

You can take anything you have heard about track days and throw it out the window when comparing a private member day to a public track day. It's a totally different experience. Waaaay more laid back, waaaaaaay more mature, and way more track time.

PMjolly, I road a couple of trackdays and one race when I was 58, a race and two trackdays at 59 and this year at 60 I'm riding a nearly full season of race weekends (about 14) and a few trackday weekends. You learn real quick to not go too fast and stay within your limits. It took a while but I'm finally winning races and having the time of my life. But I'm still slow compared to the wonder-kids.

The tack I ride at most, Arroyo Seco runs year round. We are coming up on the end of the race season, November. Dec thru Feb is all trackdays and it's a good time to ride because there are no crowds, no sessions, just an open track with big laid back attitude. It's a fun time to ride, but it doesn't have the same satisfaction as the race season.

I'm actually looking forward to the trackday only season. I have a lot of new parts on my bike and I need to set it up. It's going to be a fun Winter. If you are any where near southern New Mexico, please stop by. It will blow you away at how much fun it is to be on the track in the Winter.

Better idea:

Bring $150 guest fee and proper gear and ride at ECR instead for the day!

(Textile OK, but not mesh gear. 2pc also OK on member days.)

I'm about $145.00 short on the guest fee.....Also need proper track gear which is a Christmas list item.

Really interested in a track day, just not able to participate at the moment.

Maybe we can do a week day Bike Night deal if ECR is to far out for everyone?

If you guys do make it out next weekend, I'll get you out on a parade lap or two at lunch. It will be at a snail's pace, but free and any street gear that includes helmet, jeans and decent boots is OK.

Jdugger,
I will be busy on Saturday for sure, but I might be able to make it on Sunday afternoon. What time is the parade lap? I don't have leathers yet, but all the gear I do have is good gear. I will wear good boots, gloves, and helmet. I will have a stupid mesh jacket on, as that is all I have at the moment. It's a long ride for me, but I think I am going to try to be there. How late will people be riding? Anyone else want to ride out there? I'll be heading up HWY 287 from Fort Worth. Gofast, I think we would be taking different routes to get there, but we might be able to meet up somewhere on the way out.

PM,

It's a member day a the track both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I think you underestimate just how casual of an affair member days really are. It will be a handful of bikes and a handful of cars trading sessions on track, then having lunch together at the club grill. Might be more busy than usual just because of the great weather and the upcoming SCCA race weekend, but who knows.

There's no rentals or anything like that. It's more like just the guys, a race track and some ball busting.

There's no formal times for anything. We just kinda come and go as it makes sense, usually on 30-minute sessions. So, as for a parade lap, I'll just wait until one of the session changes and tell everyone to hold on for a minute while we lap a couple of times.

Y'all are *crazy* in my opinion for not getting leathers and taking up on the offer to come out and actually ride the track in an environment like this on a weekend with such perfect weather. You don't get 5 weekends like this a YEAR!

We aren't talking about a chaotic RideSmart day where every is one hot corner from taking out half the bikes on track. This is a completely different environment.

On Saturdays my wife often comes with me. She takes a ride or two in some of the sports cars during the car sessions, and helps make lunch if we fire up the grill in the paddock instead of eating a burger at the clubhouse. When a good group shows up, we hang at the man-cave garage, grill some burgers, dogs and steaks, and watch motorcycle film until it's time to ride again. And, of course, a barley pop or two after the track closes while we load up to go home.

Just sayin'... Weekends like this are the real reason to own a motorcycle.

OK, What time do we need to be at ECR? Is it obvious where to go once you get there?

Not sure if I will be there Sat or Sun yet, most likely Sat, but who knows. I have more crap that has to be done this weekend or else.....

Still, really interested in seeing ECR and a Member Day seems best.

Rob

Lunch in Plano this Friday anyone?
