Did anyone see this race? Holy Crap our boys performed amazingly!
Geoff and the 1125RR were in the top 3-4 the entire race, he even led the race briefly in the early laps. On lap 10 he even pulled the fastest lap of the race up to that point!
He gave Pegram and the Duc 1098R everything he could handle in the early running. Unfortunately he went wide and off the track with 4 laps to go and finished 6th (best of the season!). He got a ton of TV time and Kudos from all 3 commentators.
And for those who don't think the ZTL2 can work on the track, watch lap 6 when he backs it in coming down the hill into the hairpin, and then lofts the rear wheel for about 10 feet before turning it in. Amazing!
I'm so proud of the team and everything they've done this year. Hopefully the 1190RR will be homologated for next season. The marketing angle works well too, as I'm more proud than ever of my bike and can't wait to get back to the track next month.
great stuff! it's not hard to imagine where that bike would be with the 1190 motor. fantastic. those were some crazy weather conditions out there and May was impressive!
hayes definitely ran a conservative race considering he had the title in the bag.
Thanks for posting that Dean...great to be able to see a little of the race...we don't get it in the "sandbox". Sounds like the TV commentators are rooting for Buell more this year after the HD debacle.

Asee.. He went wide because Zemke tried to stuff him and hit him underneath. Geoff, rather than getting tangled up and getting hurt, ran wide and off into the wet grass. That put him too far behind to catch up, but turned his fastest lap on the last lap of the race.
Yeah, it works great when you replace the pads every hour. The issue is pad life, not stopping power
Uh, that means it works on the racetrack.
Perhaps the ZTL2 advantages of a lighter front wheel is what helps contribute to the corner speed and "massive edge grip" that has been repeated by Geoff as the advantage of the 1125RR vs. other Superbikes. Watching the races you could see that Geoff's roll speed and lean angle was much higher than the competition and he had several choices of lines going into several key corners. IMHO, that's how being down 20-30 hp he was able to make ground on the front pack so quickly in the early laps. That and the team made a great decision to go with slicks in the drying conditions.
Apparently ysracer imagines that the other competitors run the same brake pads all season.
And for those who don't think the ZTL2 can work on the track, watch lap 6 when he backs it in coming down the hill into the hairpin, and then lofts the rear wheel for about 10 feet before turning it in. Amazing!
That was a hell of a race. I'm so glad I was able to see it in person. Geoff was railing that 1125! Sucks that one turn was all that kept him from the top 5 or possibly a place on the podium.
I can't wait to see what Geoff and Erik Buell Racing do next year with a 1190RR to run. The 1190RS should be out before then making the 1190RR legal for AMA Superbike. +15hp and -8lbs doesn't seem like much but it could the difference between top 10 and top 5 or the podium. I think with all the experience from this season they can be a major contender next year.
My jaw dropped watching that stoppie down the hill... I must have rewound that 5 or 6 times to watch it again. And it looked to me like wasn't "before turning in", it was "while turning in". Amazing to watch..
I must have missed the part where they had to pit to replace the brake pads.
Jng1226 I wish there was a smiley hiding his face and shaking his head... it corners so well because of the chassis and trail # 83-86mm depending on fork length and degree of steering cup... most inline 4s are around 93mm, the ZTL is more noticeable in high speed corners because of less rotating mass (correct me if I'm wrong, 6 lbs less than the duals when moving)and the amount of muscle needed to work it through the turn and since the in line 4s have significantly more power there is no real advantage... advantage on the 1190 in this race yes..
ZTL works but I seen in person the 1190 race at road america and when Geoff came into the pits (several times... end up with a DNF) the front disk was glowing like a fresh f'd fox in a forest fire.. He had to be doing 195+mph into turn 1. If that rotor wasn't warped it was made from some metal stolen from NORAD or Area 51 from a UFO crash site... which might explain the DNF on the only race longer than 8 laps.. At RA I seen a lot of attention directed to the front brake and next season I would expect to see something new/upgraded on 1190 race bike ZTL and run away from the pack all season long...
would someone please capture & then post up a file that'll capture the image & certify Erik's brief, magic moment in SpeedTV's coverage [@ 1:13 in mike's vid], when suddenly there's Geoff's foto & a "1st place" graphic !!
At RA during the TC race (the DNF) Erik Buell Racing said they could have finished, but pulled in to not mess with the points for the other teams. Was there more going on? It is true they had been working on and changing brake components, but that entire race was entered just for testing anyway.
Buell101 - I said "perhaps". If you don't think ~6 lbs of rotating mass (front only, rear wheel design is less as well) helps handling (which I specified as roll speed and the ability to choose alternate lines easier than other competitors), then yes, I agree that there should be a smiley hiding his face and shaking his head...
Thanks for the upload, they showed the race on the East Coast here at 2:00am Monday, just to make sure everybody was asleep. AMA should make a deal next year with Speed to show the races at a reasonable time, and reduce the time of the NASCAR crap that is always going on.
spd- +INFINITY!!! give nascar their own damn channel, im tired of seeing it on speed ALL the freakin time....if i wanna watch someone make a left turn for 4 hours ill make one of my friends walk in a circle!
CONGRATS to the only non-factory team!! I sure hope that idiot who is "running...ruining" HOG gets indigestion every time someone mentions how well BUELLs keep on, keepin on!!
Since SPEED is now the NASCAR channel, the AMA should do what F1GP has done...more and more F1 races are being shown on FOX Sports. These are local FOX non-cable channels too, and they are live.

Excellent video, thanks for posting! Notice how Geoff's lines are way tighter than the other riders, always on the inside. Demonstration of the awesome handling of our Buells! I felt it right away going from my school bus GSXR1000 to my 1125R. A little exaggeration there, but it is a noticeable difference.
