I just put a set of Shinko 705s on the uly for an upcoming trip that will include a lot of dirt/gravel. Front is a 120/90-17 and the rear is a 150/70r17. Took it out for a ride today, feels better than I expected. I had to move the front fender up a little.

They are pretty thick, just feeling the sidewall they felt way thicker than the syncs. Be warned, the front is a tube type bias ply, but quite a few people have run them without issues tubeless. They seems to be made the same inside and around the bead area as the radial tubeless rear. The only difference is the aramid belt. I'll let you guys know after I put some miles on them, I'm hoping they work out. They 150 rear is pretty skinny on our rear wheel, but it seems to have a pretty good crown, I definitely won't be pushing these as hard as I did the sport touring tires but I have an STT if I want to go real fast. |

Running a tube type tire in a tubeless application is asking for trouble IMHO, especially on a front. |

Towpro, I think you have that reversed. Yjsrule is running a tube-type tire on a tubeless style rim. If I understand correctly, he does not have a tube in a tire that is designed to have one. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no tire expert but I would talk to someone who is before I would head out on the highway with that setup. There must be a reason for the two different types of tires. |

Tubeless tires have different bead profiles. They also usually have a different inner liner. The tube tires is harder so the tube can move around. Tubeless is a bit softer as it acts as the inner tube. At least that's what I've learned over the years... YMMV Brad |

Yes, now that I reread it, I was wrong. There is a thread over on ADV rider about The shanko 705's having reported failures that the tread looks like air is getting between the layers and bubbling out the tread, but I see YSrules (under a different name)already posting over on that same thread. Since the failures, the problem tire (rear) has been changed to a radial with a heaver load range. They will probably be the next tires on my F800GS (which is a tube type rim). I also run Shinko 700's on my XR650L. Shinko can be reached, I have emailed them in the past and they replied within minutes. But I don't have the email address anymore. |

Ok, trip got cut short so I didn't quite get 2k on the tires. So here are my impressions, good and bad. On the dirt, these tires are far better than anything I've seen sized for the uly. On packed and even damp roads in TN a roll on of the throttle was almost like being on the blacktop. On the road, they were fine. Nothing like a sport touring tire though. They fall into corners and feel like you almost have to hold the bike up, kind of strange. The front looks almost new, but the back is wearing pretty quick, I'll report back once it's dead. We ran across deals gap on Monday and they did ok, they are noisy and feel a little squirmy under hard braking I would assume due to the tall tread blocks. The front let's you know when it's being pushed hard in a turn, especially under braking with a little squirm and howl. The guy I went with has a set of these in the old bias version which had some tread separation issues and of course his decided to start coming apart so we didn't get to do a lot of dirt. Overall I'm happy with them, great offroad, with a little compromise on road. Hopefully that front bias tire holds up and they start producing a radial. Oh yeah, they are both taller than stock, the sidestand is almost too short. Plus I'm short so an already tall bike is even taller. |

Ordered a set of 705's for the XB12S. Got the 130 80/17 for the front. Had read somewhere that it fits? Dang, hope so.. Anyone know for sure??? The rear should fit with no probs it looks like. thanks |

New Uly owner here, found a 12k kms bike for dirt cheap. Dirty biker all my life, didn't like the geometry of the bike. Changed to shinko 705s, rear 170/60r17, front 130/80 17. Had to raise front fender 3/4" which was easy, also swapped bars to protaper SE ATV high bars. Feels much more nimble and stable now. Turns in easier and with more confidence. To anyone who wondered... Also raised forks 2mm. Probably going to get some lowered footpegs to finish off to get the ergos a little closer to an off-road bike. |

Brands46, same background, Desert Rat not in it now, but the beauteous opposite in NW Ontario, Only Uly I know of ever residing there. Works Beautifully for Moi, after tuning to fit. Had Heart Attack, among other slams, lost 23% of Heart, All of Obliterated "Widowmaker", your Cooling system pump, cannot handle the Heat there no mo, tho spent a life out Working hard in it. Tuning to fit moi, bestest thing done for an H-D that dances, Everything but soft terrain. Not tried it in Desert Yet, but know the reqs, to ride it, Uly no gotz. Too limited in wheel sizes, wish the Elves had left room to grow that way, I'm trying to work out how to get around. Precision Engineering 2" drop pegs & adjustable foot controls, risers & low bars to make it fit to perfection, this Rangy 6'2" mostly legs, 37" inseam Boy. Cannot recommend them enough, if you can find, or duplicate, if needed to fit the bike to You. Curse You HardleyDavidison, for being soooo Stupid, to kill the Best Bike ever powered by one of your deliberate antiques, a Tribute you Stupidly Dropped, trying to keep nostalgic riders rapidly dying off, from having a Future in another not nostalgic form, but Ridden as M/C's were intended to be. Truly Excellent Commenting & Preview posting setup on this board! Froggy, what Board program and version is being used her, I LiKE it! It paid off our land too, & enabled moi to pick up the Only XB12X in NW Ontario, when offered up, bringing M/C Ridin, back into My Life, having Very little riding time, on crappy commuter Honda twin 400, used to commute on a bitchin road up the hill to workplace, on the same twisty living on at that time, 97-2000, after unnecessary Mining Injury before leaving that Very Instructional Job, taking care of Head Injured peeps, w/Problematic behaviors that kept My crap in perspective. b. |
