Jeff, if you can find one when you get home, how about adapting a used Hayabusa front fairing. Okay, sure, not a first choice. But slick and usually on Craigslist from the boys who crash. Make it a HayaBuellsa, it's a red hat, no question. Go get 'em tomorrow. |

I am thinking hard about next year and a good fairing. The seating position and aero on this bike seem to be holding me back. I spent some time today looking at fast open 'busa's and there are some serious differances in what I have vs. those. |

Does Kinsey have any left over Tramp II fairings. Or the Leo Hess style is still available from the guy in Vista. Since you are running A, a lower chassis? Thanks for the posted photos. Have a great Saturday. Hit 200 and you may as well stay over for the Shoot Out. |

Find some RR-1000 bodywork, better Aero than most everything out there, except maybe the stuff Ralph Hudson used this year to nab all 4 naturally aspirated 750 records. We already are talking to him! Just an FYI guys, this bike sounds SWEET!!! And is alot of fun to watch, not to mention Jeff and co. are great folks. |

New record @ 180.35 in the 3000cc gas class. Another Buell LSR record and he's switching to Fuel class. Nice, Jeff! |

not great, but good enough. there was a 5 mph headwind on both rus. And they made me pull the headlight so the aero was a bit worse. 175 down and 177 return for a 176 something record. I didn't put anything different in the tank. I am happy with how the week went. I really thought it would go 185 and maybe with a couple more runs to tune on it, it could have. I made 8 runs and every one was a qualifying or record run. best speed was 181.4 in the quarter. now the planning starts for next year! |

Jeff did they make you pull the headlight because your running in the A class? Can your bike run as a legal M class bike? Or is there even a M class at 3000cc? |

M rule changed a few years ago, OEM engine cases only. All aftermarket cases to the A class. Nice job, Jeff, setting two new Buell records at WoS. And you get to be among the S&S footprints that have been planted there over the decades. Your company has made a significant addition to racing and performance. Congratulations. |

Monxix is right on why I am in the A class. There was some debate on if the headlight was legal in the A class. The rule book says something like "no streamlining ahead of the rider". They let me through tech with it and then the impound inspector said that he believes the headlight can be considered a streamlining device and made me pull it when I switched to the Fuel class. I am not sure which interpertation is correct, but I did what they said. Of course I would have liked to have gone faster and believe that there is at least a 190 in this bike, but after thinking about it on the 24 hour drive home, every tuning or bike change call we made was the right one and I gained 10 mph from the first run to the last. The bike is awesome and it will just take a few more runs to find some speed. I hate to say it, but I think the Buell chassis may be part of the problem. The underslung shock keeps me from lowering the engine as far as I could. Also, the tail section keeps me up in the air a long ways. On the other hand, it handled well and got the job done. |

Jeff part of it may be sitting in the seat your a little bit bigger than Susan Wilson or Leslie Porterfield. Jockey sized people punch smaller holes in the air. Part of it may be the seat I have seen pictures of Susan with her helmet resting on the tank, you may need to get back further to get lower. |

The rules contrived by the organization make little sense to me. A Buell tuber's headlight is a streamlining fixture? That's really dumb. If it is on the stock bike then it sure as heck should be okay in the A class. If they want a special class for stripped down naked chassis, then make one, but don't pretend that a stinking open mounted headlight is a special streamlining feature. Jeff, you need some leathers with the hump. Or is that illegal in the class too. Are skinny little guys as riders illegal in the "A" class too? |

I believe the official was in error. If the headlight lens is on a vertical plane, it should be good to go. If it is tilted, it may be considered aero, though it may pass at BUB. But, one goes with what they tell you on site. It didn't cost a record, luckily. Hump is okay in Partial Streamlining. Jockey size is good. Women have "pear bottoms" which are an advantage. No, really. Can't force them into another class for physiology. Tuber chassis are too tall. I've seen a couple of drag bikes converted to a different shock, vertical, behind the engine, to get it lower. If you modify a chassis for the shock, it may be prudent to rake the steering head to 29 degrees or more, probably more, degrees for speeds in the 200+ range. Note: Don McCaw raked the steering on his RR back in '91-'92. Yeah, I'll get flack from some on that one, but stick by it. Winter project? Bodywork? Airtech acquired sets of RR1000 and RR1200 bodywork. I have no idea when they will re-pop it for sale. Now, the lowers for either will not fit around a 5-speed or big S&S, despite my wishing it so. However, back in the day, Buell made a modified lower that will. I know of one set available, besides the one in my shop. If you go that direction, I'll refer you to the owner. For A classes, Drew the BUB inspector has an extra set of Charlie Toy glass in NW Indiana for sale. PM me for his contact info and, have you got a price on your 1650 engine from the other bike? It may be cost effective for me to take it up to 120". Thanks for going West and adding two Buell records. |

Moxnix, I have looked in to good bodywork, but decided that I didn't have time to get it ready for this year. I spoke to Don McCaw last year about his bodywork and bike. He didn't think his would fit because of the extra rake his bike has. I also spoke with Kent at AirTech about the Charlie Toy stuff. That is what I was going to go with. Actually had Charlie Toy walk into my office one day last fall, but that's a different story. I didn't know AirTech had RR bodywork to copy. Maybe I will have to push Kent some more. He needs some parts for his S&S 100", so maybe we could work out a deal. I sent a PM. Feel free to call me and we can talk about this stuff. |

Jeff, We had to remove our headlight on our A bike last year also so that is the way they are interpreting the rule now. They say A bikes are purpose built so there is no need for a headlight. That was how it was explained to us. Ans yes your physical size is probably costing you about 7-10 mph compared to a Susan Wilson (Message edited by queenofspeed on September 20, 2010) |

Is the RR bodywork better than the Charlie Toy? Or is it 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other. The new tails that several bikes have been running the lest couple of years is that the Airtech/Charlie Toy front fairing with a different tail? |

I am not sure which bodywork is better. I don't know of anyone who has experience with both that would be a fair comparison. I know both have gone fast though! I like the RR stuff myself just because it goes well with the buell bike. THe charlie Toy stuff seems to be laid out for a low bike and I am not sure how well it would fit on a Buell. As far as the rider goes, I know I am giving up a lot by riding the bike myself. Finding a different rider is certainly open for discussion for next year. Along that line, I have sat on Tramp III, the worlds fastest pushrod bike, here at S&S. That bike is amazingly narrow. My shoulders hang out of the fairing at least 3 inches on both sides. I believe that one of the main reasons that bike went fast was that Dan Kinsey is a fairly small guy who could be tightly packaged on that bike. My XR750 fairing must be 6-8 inches wider than Tramp's fairing |

Buells in LSR always looks good in Buell fairings. Buell LSR: Own the Straights. Last evening I went into my home office to kick my son off the computer. He was sitting there with Tom Murphy's The Fastest Motorcycles on Earth with the pages open to the S&S Story. At a run near 240, Mr. Kinsey's tach showed 270 on the Tramp III. Wheel spin at 240? Nerves of steel. Jeff, if Airtech doesn't do their RR stuff, we can see about doing a copy or two here in the Midwest. Riches has the Buell factory molds for the Westwinds, which I considered using with some XRTT lowers before obtaining the other stuff. RS/RSS fairing doesn't accommodate wide shoulders, tho. |

Aaron fitted the RR fairings to his S-2 based bike with excellent results. I have a set of it from Don McCaw. Wheelspin on big HP bikes at Bonnie is pretty normal. Had it at all the meets this year with a calculated 30% at the Bubs meet,I went 199 geared for 250,Greg went 229 geared for 280. My 223 pass on the faired bike this year was scary---bike was everywhere on the track, combination of slippery salt and sidewinds. |

Pretty much. Hannigan fairings in Arkansas makes some add-on hand shields for their touring fairings. I've always wondered if that would make life easier for we size-disadvantaged people tucking in out of the wind. |

Looks similar to Bill Warner's "goldfish" fairing. That one allowed a 500HP turbo Busa to achieve 300 mph at Loring I believe. I think eventually all serious APS bikes will be wearing these clothes. I saw a video the other day of a Moto Guzzi in a similar fairing, don't know what engine class he was in or his speed but it sounded good. You should be very fast in that fairing Jeff........ |
