Here is the short of it: I'm thinking of using a spare Blast alternator in a non Buell application to replace a notoriously weak system. The magnet housing will still be turning at crankshaft speed, but I'm wondering if there will be a problem with overheating if the stator wiring is run without any oil to act as a cooling medium. After hearing of some of the problems folks have had running oils in their primaries that have attacked the windings, I dont want to spend a bunch of fabrication time only to find out that the insulation on the windings is too fragile to deal with what I have planned.

Use a switching regulator instead of a shunt regulator, that'll make a big difference...
