Have you ridden it? The ECM needs to learn the change in airflow. Get it up to operating temp and the idle should come down. Go for a ride, spend at least five minutes at a steady 3000-3500 rpm cruise, and the ECM will go into its learning cycle. |

I took it out for a ride this after noon and got it good and warmed up . it showed a little improvement.but it still was running at around 1800 rpm . maybe my throttle position sensor is going bad |

Did you ride it like I mentioned above? spend at least five minutes at a steady 3000-3500 rpm cruise, and the ECM will go into its learning cycle. Don't just go out and hammer on it. Let it LEARN the new airflow. |

Leaking intake seals will make it idle high. |

I agree with Ratbuell here. It may self-correct. Unless of course, you killed a sensor somehow while dropping in a simple filter |

took it out this evening and hit interstate rode it for about ten minutes or so . made no difference . checked the seals on intake nothing. it just wants to run on high idle |

Did you have the high idle before you installed the K&N filter? If not, it has to be related to the filter change. |

well...if you had a high idle BEFORE you swapped filters, swapping back won't do a bit of good. Try a TPS reset: 1. Turn ignition to "On". (DO NOT START ENGINE) 2. Allow ignition initialization process to finish. 3. Actuate throttle back and forth eight times between full/wide open throttle (WOT) and closed throttle (CLT - meaning idle position) pausing at each extreme for approximately one second. Specifically and in agonizing detail... 1. Turn ignition switch/key to "Run" position 2. Allow ignition system initialization to complete (a couple seconds or so?) 3. Actuate throttle as follows: WOT-hold for ~ 1 second CLT - hold for ~ 1 second WOT-hold for ~ 1 second CLT - hold for ~ 1 second WOT-hold for ~ 1 second CLT - hold for ~ 1 second WOT-hold for ~ 1 second CLT RECMTPS is then Complete. |

Took it out for a ride tonight and got it up to good operating temp and the idle jumped up to 2000 rpm at every stop light I hit |

I don't mean to hijack....but... Ratbuell - the manual says 3 open/close cycles for the TPS reset, and that's what I've been using. Is the 4th one you list "just to make sure"? Or have I been doing it wrong? |

Three should work fine. I couldn't find it in a manual online, my bike is an '06 (so I have an idle adjust screw)...and my quote above is from elsewhere on badweb. Pdento - when's the last time you adjusted your throttle cables? And lubed 'em? How much slop is in the throttle grip? |

i recently adjusted them . and have very little slop in them now. but i'm still getting high idle when it gets up to temp. |

reset throttle position sensor . it idles great when it is cold . no problems until warm. |

Do the reset HOT, see if that fixes it. |

Set it when it's hot. Get it to start and idle - and RIDE it so it re-learns - a couple times and it will clear up. Me, I'd rather have to fiddle with a cold bike than have one act up when warm (during riding conditions). |
