I guess we'll have to see what other things are kept and what new designs he has come up with. If not going to be under bike I like how narrow it is, should keep from dragging asphalt, lol.

The muffler is on the side because the HD own the patent!

So does that mean no more fuel in the frame and the rotor on the front wheel or does he own those patents

Patents expire. Check the dates.

I'm pretty sure the exhaust patent expired, about the same time it showed up on the Ninja.

>>> The muffler is on the side because the HD own the patent!

Wrong. The additional muffler on the side is to make the higher HP bike meet noise restrictions.

No need for any patents expiring if he's reworking existing 1125R bikes.

This is all very much fun. I don't even know anything about all this patent and such stuff and I still find the speculation hilarious.

I'm telling you it's because the front half of the old can has been replaced with a turbo charger!

(c'mon guys, if we are going to start rumors, lets start ones that could go viral and encourage Erik Buell Racing to do something really cool for us!)

Better yet . . . if only for entertainment . . try spending a day thinking of reasons things WOULD work as opposed to guessing at reason things won't work.

Anybody who knows any patent or legal agreement holding Erik back knows a hell of a lot more than I do.

Also be mindful that seldom has there been a time in history when there was more cash sitting idle in search of a deal.

If Erik Buell decides to build a street bike or commence a commercial consumer motorcycle company . . . I am unaware of anybody or anything that could stop him.

Reasons it will work:

1. The world is starved for an American-made world-class, high performance bike.

2. Buell fans are starved for a new model since the shut-down.

3. The motorcycle community is starved for something different than the "standard configuration" of motorcycle which has basically been stuck (with the exception of minor refinements) with one design of performance bike for the past 30 years.

4. The people at Erik Buell Racing have shown and ability to do amazing things with very little.

5. In one of the best direct comparisons we have, last year, Taylor Knapp was on an 1125RR at NJMP and he was faster than Geoff May who was on a GSXR 10000. This year Geoff was on the Buell and Taylor was on the Suzuki and Geoff was faster than Taylor. That provides compelling evidence that the 1125RR is comparable, if not faster than the bike that has won nearly every AMA championship in recent memory. An 1190RR that offers significant performance improvements over the 1125RR has the potential to really shake things up.

Hahahahaha . . . . you are SOOOOOOOOO positive!

Are you worried about patents, non-compete agreements, dealerships.

Man . . . you have GOT to stop attending those Optimist Club meetings and spend more time on the internet.

My take is that it'd take a yokeful of oxen to KEEP Erik Buell down.

Call it intuition.

How about looking at a merge/acquisition of/purchase of (some kind of deal) with Highland down in Oklahoma?
Their stock dropped 44% after the untimely deaths of top management. There is something there to work with, expand upon.

The moment I saw Rat-Pak post shirts with the 1190RS designation saying it would be Erik Buell Racing's new street-bike, I knew those issues were worked out in a way that allowed E. Buell to move forward.

If those issues were still on the table, there wouldn't have been any announcement of a streetbike. It seemed that simple to me.

SIMPLE! Man you are drinking that kool-aid again. There are so many impediments to Erek building a bike that it can't possibly work. Plus his plan is either too ambitious or not ambitious enough! How can you be optimistic!

Erik Buell will NEVER be able to start his own company and build motorcycles! Oh wait he has already done it 3 times!

Someone . . . in a press conference . . . once took Henry Ford to task.

quote:

Reporter: Sure, you're big stuff now . . at the top of your game and one of the wealthiest and most successful business folks in America. But . . .what is it was ALL taken away from you? What would you do then?"

Ford: Easy, I'd do it again. It was tough the first time but now I know how

I suppose someday I'll have to tell you the story of the wealthy man and the gold fish.

LOL! Just wait it'll be here before you know it. I believe Erik Buell doesn't see negativity, only means you have to use another option. After reading that book "25 Years of Buell" how could you have doubt in him!

It's always been a struggle regardless of some people's pocketbooks.

I'd imagine it comes down to somebody that has to have the drive, passion, vision, financial backing, guts, balls, friends, engineering expertise, people skills and, to a large part, hopefully, a fortunate turn of events to establish a respectable world beating marquee in the best professional manner. It doesn't happen overnight.

Have patience, and thank goodness, that somebody is Erik Buell.

I was discussing this with my buddy who have been following this at a very interested level bordering on obsession...lol

1. Apparently Erik Buell Racing was let out of his clause with HD early
2. The race bike is nearly 50k
3. Doesn't homologation rules state you must build upwards of 1000 bikes to qualify that model for competition??
4. Even if his intention is to build low number boutique bikes how will they qualify him for homologation rules, will anyone be able to afford a 25k 1190rs??

Don't misunderstand I am a huge supporter, I am just trying to get my head around any possible way he can sell these next year to anyone other than the rich and famous....

My understanding is that the AMA rules simply states a bike must be available for purchase as a street legal motorcycle in the USA during the year is is raced. No minimum numbers needs to be produced and you don't even have to actually sell one just have one available for sale.

Thanks for the clarification. I just found the following as well;
"This from page ten (20 in the rulebook) of 59 in the AMA Pro Racing 2009 rules, under the heading of Homologation: American Superbike motorcycles must be street certified in the US and available through US retail dealers.

So that is the good news....the price may be the bad news...lol

1. Apparently Erik Buell Racing was let out of his clause with HD early

"Let out of his clause"?

2. The race bike is nearly 50k

The 1190RR is $44K, so closer in truth to "nearly $40K" than to "nearly $50K."

3. Doesn't homologation rules state you must build upwards of 1000 bikes to qualify that model for competition?? Even if his intention is to build low number boutique bikes how will they qualify him for homologation rules...

As you've already discovered, no number is specified, so for AMA no impediment seems to exist.

4. ...will anyone be able to afford a 25k 1190rs??

Is that a serious question? I mean do you really doubt that there are enthusiasts who would not pay higher than mass market prices for an exclusive American built superbike repli-racer from Erik Buell? Really?

Blake

1. Non compete clause
2. I was averaging high..lol
3. dead subject
4. Obviously you can afford 25k so it won't be an issue for you, I am sure many enthusiasts would pay that, but having one in the garage is vastly different than saying you would pay that...
For me the days of my 30k Custom Ducati 1098S Tr-Colore are long gone so I am merely thinking out loud wondering what the price will be and ...hoping it won't be 25k :-). Don't get too uptight we all want success for the brand right?

I won't be in the market for a $25K repli-racer. Nor am I "uptight".

Just seemed really bizarre that someone would ask if "anybody" will be able to afford $25K for a Buell 1190RS.

The answer is yes, and more than a few. ; )
