I was thinking yesterday, what color was my bike originally when it was produced? When i bought it, the previous owner had painted the plastics black. I believe the bike was originally red, but how do i find out? will the vin give me any of this data and how do i read it? | ||

Why don't you scratch through the paint on the underside of, say, a front mud guard? | ||

If it's the '99 X1 in your profile that will limit it to a handful of colors right there, then if the frame is original that will probably limit it even further. If you use the search option I know it's been discussed in the past about production numbers and paint schemes but it may take some time to sleuth it out but like Fahren said, scratching in an inconspicuous place may yield the quickest results. | ||

FTR, I don't like scratching paint to determine OE Colors. Most bikes are repainted due to accident. From that, one can see that the OE paintset stands a pretty good chance of having been replaced, typically with a mish-mash of parts. | ||
