Hey everyone! I posted before but don't see the thread anymore... anyways. Does any one know where to get an instrument panel, cheap, and even broken? I just need one of the "Mode" or "Reset" switches, as mine is broke and my ODO is stuck on "0.0 F" for the fuel trip because even if I were to rig it and get the ODO back every 125 - 150 miles the "0.1 F" comes up... any ideas, or thoughts? |

Sam, if you have the soldering skills to tackle this I would have a look for micro switches in other applications as well. Just looking around my junk I see similar switches (going from memory the Buell ones are soldered in 4 places) mounted on an old Central Heating control panel. This measures approximately 1/8" from the circuit board to the top of the button. I don't have the time to pull my instrument panel out to compare for you but I assume you have yours in bits to check? If this will help I'm happy to remove one and send it to you - small enough to put in a letter. I'm in Australia so it will take a while to get it to you so it might be worth going to your local central heating place and ask them for any old trashed controllers? You also get small switches in washing machine control panels, older printer control panels, modems etc. |

Rays, thank you very much for your reply! My Lightening is my only mode for transportation so today I finally got to take it apart again and take measurements and pictures. The switch measures 1/4" square (looking at it head-on) and from the top of the button to the circuit board is about a 1/4" as well, but I can rig something together to extend the button as pictured.

Sam, I think this switch made by Alps would be very close to what you have shown: http://www.alps.com/WebObjects/catalog.woa/E/HTML/ Tact/SnapIn/SKHH/SKHHBYA010.html It looks like you could purchase one online here if the dimensions are correct: http://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/SKHHBYA010 /?qs=seHrhfPpLDyV03Wz2fh6eg%3d%3d The ones I have are surface mount but it looks like the one you have taken the photo of has four pcb 'legs' so the Alps one I have linked to would be pretty close I suspect. |

Rays, the Alps was very close, although I was concerned that it was a couple millimeters shy, so I did some browsing on the site, GREAT SITE thank you for introducing me, and I found one that I think will be a better fit at: http://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/CK-Components/K SC243JLFG/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsgGjVA3toVBOjLgGZA5A1OTYJq 4SAL5wo%3d This one looks surface mounted but I don't see why I couldn't just carefully bend the 'legs' a bit. |

Sam, thanks for the update - that was very much a guesstimation so I would be interested to see how you go with a closer replacement. That Mouser site is great - they have a bazillion connectors and pins etc. One thing they do have is all the odds and ends for Packard connectors (as used on the infamous '77 connector). If I get time this week-end I'll pull my '06 Uly instruments apart and see if the later panels use the same switch. I have looked at them before when changing out some dead bulbs and I didn't think they were as chunky - need to have a closer look. |

I ordered several of them, and they have shipped, very pleased with their turn around time. And for the cost, can't beat it, even if they don't work. What is the '77 connector? I know what a Packard connector is, just not the '77. I've had mine open a couple times, thought I had a faulty panel, and turned out it was a wire with just a pin-hole of wire that was shorting, that was a fun one, didn't open up the replacement though, ended up selling the replacement back too, but had I not I would have never gotten to know about this awesome site from the Uly rider from Australia! Thanks again Rays, much appreciated!! |
