Wow. What an incredible improvement. This must be how Erik intended his bikes to handle. The shock was installed Friday and I've been ripping the twisties all weekend. Been having a tough time putting 'er away. Havent done any tuning yet, just what was done at Penske to my weight and riding style. Thanks to Al, Penske, and all badweb tubers for convincing me. It's WELL worth the money, even on a tight budget. Plus it looks supremely bad ass. -Nate

This must be how Eric intended his bikes to handle. Very true. Only problem is, he also intended people to spell his name with a K. sorry...just a MAJOR pet peeve of mine. Spell the man's name right, please! E-R-I-K. That is a nice looking S1W, though. That billet metallic is a great looking color! |

Good choice and I concur. Now you need to do the other end with Race Tech springs and gold valves! |

Man, I wish the rear suspension wasn't so expensive to upgrade. The front end can be done for less than $250 with new springs and gold valves, but the rear, at a grand, is a big ticket item. I'm sure worth it, though. Someday. |

Penske's can occasionally be had for less, I paid $762 shipped, but are never cheap... |

Xl1200r, The Penske is a high dollar item, no doubt. It's taken me two years and three failed recall shocks to break down and get one. All the recalled shocks were free from local HD dealers. After my first Showa blew, fellow badwebbers said to upgrade. Well after one more Showa-Turd blew I started thinking. Then the third blew and leaked oil all over my rear tire, and I started saving my $$$$ to upgrade. It's made all the difference in the world, like it knows what's coming. I rode it all weekend on the same roads I always ride. The small bumps are hardly noticeable. The big bumps aren't nearly as big. Under power the ass doesn't dive. Under braking it doesn't lift up like a stinkbug. It feels like a better bike all around. About the spelling of Mr. Buell's first name. I understand Ratbuells frustration. My last name is Cavanagh, with no U. Everyone puts a U in there. I had a coworker who kept doing it so I popped the U button out of his keyboard. |

The Buell I bought used came with a Penske shock, but the spring is dark blue. Does the spring color signify the spring weight, does anyone know? Never experienced the stock shock, nor the sticker shock of the Penske. One thing to remember the generic instructions are backwards. Compression is the screw on the body, and rebound is on the remote reservoir. I wish we could still get those long bolts in Titanium! I'll have some fabbed up someday. |

Spring color is just another option from my understanding. |

The other thing I like about a Penske...IF it goes bad, it's USER-REBUILDABLE. Get a seal and wear item kit, rebuild it, hit a local speed shop for a gas recharge, and bolt 'er back on. And the name thing? My last name is Goetz. Say "gets". I hear "gots", "goats", "go-tez", "gertz", "gii-oats"...you name it. And I hate having to spell it eighty five times on a phone call too. "G-O-E...just like the J-O-E in my first name"..."huh?"...<sigh> So ya, the spelling thing sticks out, sorry That, and Erik is just a super-nice guy. He's just....worth getting it right. |

I feel ya Joe. My last name is Daigle and you should see the different spelling I've seen. Most recently GNC wrote it D'Aigle on my gold card. And my middle name, Phelan, gets misspelled and mispronunciated all the time as well (it's fá-lën btw). (Message edited by Phelan on September 10, 2010) |

My last name is Bour - family is form the Alsace region, so it's spelled the French way and pronounced the German way. This confuses the hell out of people. Pronounced "Bower", so you get spellings like Bower, Bauer, Bouer, Baouer, etc. Then if they read it off a list, 9 times out of ten they say "Boor" or "Bore". I correct them, and then they inform me it's spelled like "Boor". Oh, really? You mean like: -Sour -Hour -Flour? "yeah, i guess" is the typical response, lol. |

That's just the pronunciation Dean. I originally put a flat line above the a but when I posted it, it came out different. Various accents on letters are easy to write with an iPhone . |

Has anyone in Australia or New Zealand who has bought a Penske shock got a contact (supplier) and price? Cheers |

I bought mine from Al at American Sport Bike , cost me 1132$ au landed but the dollar was better then. Ozzie distributor is NTT racing +61 88362 4417 (as on the manual) Probably cheaper and quicker to get it from American Sport Bike tho. |

Yeah, we were thinking about going there (out of our route) just to get a photo when we rode to Homecoming...but the butt-o-meter of a certain passenger nixed the idea of going 2 hours out of our way |
