I am new to riding this year, and thanks in part, about 95% part, to The Magster's webpage, I have a Blast. How to read the dipstick? The oil is black, the dipstick is black. HOW to read the darn thing? It always has enough oil on it to make a drip or two. Milage on my 2004 is 1,900, with one oil change at 950 mi, that I made this season. | ||

Practice at home with the dipstick and cooking oil. It shouldnt be that hard to see the oil on the dipstick unless a) you're low on oil b) the oil is too thin or very, very hot c) you're not wiping the dipstick off before checking it d) you're checking the oil while its running e) You're checking the oil when its cold and its not showing on the dipstick yet f) or ? | ||

f)your not standing bike straight up and down, like your riding down the road. I usually check mine every time I hit a level spot and stop if its close to an oil change. | ||

T - very nice comment and I appreciate it. I do, however, believe in fate. Fate led me to Thumper, 10 years and over 200,000 miles of riding we are still together. Fate brought me the Blast and 5 years 85,000 miles later I'm still riding one. So eventually, fate would have worked it's magic on you, it was your destiny to own a Blast! Do as Gearheaderiko and Monzaracer said above, tip your head a little to "see the light" on the dipstick and just be sure the oil it between the two lines. I check my oil every 200 miles during normal ride time and every 100 miles when traveling. It has never fallen below satisfactory levels. Take care of the bike, the bike will take care of you.
