As long as the thread is the same and the length isn't longer, I don't see why you couldn't. Make sure to use nylon washers to protect the plastic, and you should be ok... |

Mine as well. I dont know what immediate effect it will have other than rattling the other bolts. |

Over 13,900 miles I've managed to lose just one, the tail sections right front bolt. I'm just gonna order a bunch of random fasteners when I place my 15K order...I managed to snap the head off of one of the foot peg mounts, too. Damned aluminum fasteners... |

I think that the prev owner tightened them down too much. I went to studs and found some screws but they feel a bit loose still. I dont think its the wrong size. if worse comes to worse, I will just get a nylon nut for the other side.

Don't forget Never-Sieze, the 2nd in the trilogy of bike chemicals. (as opposed to biker chemicals) The 3rd is Brake-clean de-greaser. (although Gum-out might get more votes.) |

You were right Mook, the thing with the fastners that are normally on there are painted/coated so those few hundredths of an inch may make the diff. |

I like what was said re: blue Loctite - and red at the appropriate places/diameters (hey guys - we're runnin' TRACTOR MOTORS, OK???) & the "Trilogy": Loctite, Never-seez, & Brake-clean; to make it an even "Quad", I add Hylomar to the list (I don't get a commission on Hylomar, honest - although I SHOULD...) Here's an old millwright trick you may or may not know re: stuck bolts: basically what you want to do is deliver a brisk blow dead-on the bolt head; in the case of Allen heads (speaking from experience having just dropped the rear tire from an '03 XB9R) if it's in a tight spot you can use a blunt punch, putting the punch tip into the Allen socket and delivering several brisk raps. You're not trying to blast the thing out the opposite side, now, but you aren't just "babying" it either; many times a few blows like that will make the difference between getting one out and cursing as you scratch around for the EZ-Out (for the most part, an oxymoron if I've ever heard one...) ---------------------------------------- Over 13,900 miles I've managed to lose just one, the tail sections right front bolt. I'm just gonna order a bunch of random fasteners when I place my 15K order...I managed to snap the head off of one of the foot peg mounts, too. Damned aluminum fasteners... |
