Ok, so i think i missed my 10,000 mile service by a little bit... I have a few questions.

First of all, Im in New York, does anyone have a nearby dealer they would recommend?

OR

Is anyone somewhat local and looking to make a few bucks helping me look over the bike?

Ive kept up with oil changes and primary fluid every 3,000 miles. Ive also replaced the wheel bearings, battery, upgraded to HID low beams, replaced the fan, and checked the "77" connection.

the main reasons I want to check it out is because the ticking in the front end is getting louder lately and the primary chain is often loose (should i try to keep both wheels on the ground?) Also, the fuel pump whine has become more erratic of late an i have been entertaining the thought of pulling it out to check the wires etc.

Im preparing to make a long trip south and about to invest on happy trail panniers and would really like to do my best to make sure the bike will make it another 10-20,000 miles.

I dont mind bringing it to a dealer and handing them my life savings, BUT I would much rather give YOU my money and share a few laughs/make a new friend here on the forum.

So, would anyone like to help out?

The only dealer near us I would trust is Danbury in CT.

If you want an Independent shop to look at it, Get In Gear located in Pine Island.

They are noisy engines, I couldn't say right off the bat if anything was wrong or not. Hell even different oils/oil levels can make a difference with noise.

Front end clicking could be worn brake mount screws/bushings. Or worn brake pads. Or steering head bearings are loose.

Yes, keeping both wheels earthbound will help primary adjustment lifespan ; )

If you're in the mood for a ride, I'm about half an hour south of Gettysburg PA. Be happy to tear into it with you, but be warned, I believe in "teaching a man to fish". And I'm a good supervisor : )

Also...my garage is *strictly* a BYOB establishment LOL. I'll supply the tools, the roof over our heads, the pitbulls, and the satellite radio...but beer's up to the guest : )

Joe,
I wish you lived near me. Shop rules sound fair enough, and I prefer paying teachers. I wouldn't pass up an offer like that.

Joe, I might have to take you up on that one of these days. My XB has a shopping list of issues so long that I would be better off ditching it for two new bikes! : )
