We have set the dates for our fall ride up HWY 191. October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Meet up on the east side around Idaho, and US60, then head up through Globe, Salt River Canyon, and on up to Eager. Dinner and social hour at the hotel. 2nd day, head out to New Mexico, following the 2003 BRAG torqueFest route, down and loop back into AZ. Stop at Daryl Levesque's marker, and pay our respects. Lunch in Morenci, and then up HWY 191 through Alpine and back to eager. Dinner and social hour at the hotel or local restaurant. Head back to Phoenix down HWY260, through Show Low, Heber, Payson, the group can split here if they wish, and some can go down the beeline to fountain hills, and the east side. Us west side folks will be riding up through Strawberry, and taking HWY 260 across to Camp Verde, and then blasting down I-17 to town. 3 days of fun in the Mountains. About 650 miles total. Vacation day on Friday to ride up... Check you calenders, and start buttering up the 'ol lady for permission! |

Keep in mind that the weather changes quickly up on the rim. Be prepared, bring rain gear, and at least a sweat shirt to keep you warm in the evening and early morning. This has always been a great ride, from the curvy roads, the gorgeous scenery, and the evening social hour. Debbie will be riding her XB9, and I will be on the CR. |

If the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd don't work for everyone, we can try the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, or try the 9th, 10th, and 11th. Monday would be the vacation day needed off... |

Damn it, I can't do any Mondays off and I can only take days off on the weeks I'm in the shop... I'm working the office the week of the 1st and I can't take it off... I could do the following Monday but that would be the 8th... Maybe next time! Or I might get my buddy Tyler to go with me and we might meet up with you guys on a little different schedule..? |

Nick, the 8th is a Friday, not a Monday. Debbie can't go on the 1st because of work, so the dates are still up in the air. I can't do the 8th because I'm working the night of the 7th, and don't want to get off work at 7AM and then hit the road an hour later. I'm up for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, but will have to call in sick on Monday, (cough, cough) as I'm scheduled to work that night. So what about the 9th thru the 11th? any of those days work for everyone??? (Message edited by bartimus on August 19, 2010) |

I'm definitely down for this ride. I take it Bart is taking the lead on this? I'm good for either weekend, I'll keep checking back. |

Yes, I'll be leading most of this ride. Kelly and I will switch between lead, and tail rider since our girls are riding also. OK, so nick is good for the 8th, 9th, and 10th, I can do those dates, but will be a little tired, cause I'm working the night before, and get off at 0730. I'll just have to try and get some sleep at work. Greg, we are in the same part of town, so if you want you can meet up at my house near 35th ave and the 101. Darth will these dates work for you? I am also waiting to hear from Tim, he rode with us back in the spring, and is checking his calender. And I am hoping one or two of my New Mexico friends can make it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Oh, and here is the hotel we will be staying at whenever we get the dates set: Rode Inn 242 East Main Street Springerville, AZ 85938 (928) 333-4365 They average about $85 a night, $70 with my AARP discount! Once we get some dates set, I will see if I can get a group rate. Guys going by themselves may want to share a room to get the price down... |

Hey Bart, e-mail me a contact number for you as it looks like I will be in Phoenix on Tuesday so maybe we could ride to Superior from there or lunch somewhere in Phoenix if that works better for you. Art |

Bart, I have to get the new schedule from my unit here in Phoenix. Although I think that will probably work. I will know for sure after this weekend. |

OK, so now it's the 8th, 9th, and 10th? I MIGHT be able to do that. I'm in Denver the 30th thru the 3rd and leave on the 11th for Dallas for the week. This might just squeeze in. I'll have to see about time off at work and at home. I'd be willing to share a room if someone needs a roommate. |

Looks like the 8th 9th and 10th will work for everyone but me, so I'm going to have to suck it up and run with it. SO LET THIS BE THE OFFICIAL NOTICE THAT THE DATES ARE NOW OCTOBER 8TH, 9TH, AND 10TH. We may also have a surprise for everyone for dinner on Saturday, we will see if it pans out. Also I am still trying to get a group discount at the host hotel... Nick, did I read that you broke your belt? My CR just started weeping from the clutch, I ordered the kit from a sponser online, and will be installing it myself. (I'm not too big on the local Stealerships working on my bikes) I hope to have the parts in time for the ride, otherwise I will be on the XB. |

Oh, we did a pre-ride this weekend, Deb and I rode up the beeline, to Payson, and then up 260 to Springerville. Ran into rain for about 4 miles between Show Low and Springerville. Kelly rode up through Safford, up 191 and met us in Springerville at the Rode Inn. He said the road is still rough for the southern most 25 miles, just north of Morenci. We had a nice time, the temperatures were GREAT! I can't wait to go up there again! Here are some pics from the ride:
Debbie throwing the shocker
The 3 of us at the RV park visiting Debbie's Dad
Kelly's new Kawasaki Concourse, NICE BIKE! I took the XB because the CR's clutch is starting to "weep". |

Met up with 1eyeArt today, we met up and then rode up South Mountain, then stopped at the bottom for lunch at Los dos Molinas. I took Debbies bike to get rid of her chicken strips, Art was on his 2000 S3.
Figures, hottest day of the month! my hands felt like they were scorched by the time I got home. Art still had a LONG ride back to tucson, See ya next time Art! |

I still have my wideband O2 hooked up, starting to get skip spark on days that I cruise at 80 with 110+ heat. Thinking I'll hook the sensor back up and hopefully it will fix it. |

Ok, so I now I know the true meaning of "warm!!!" Our trip to Phoenix was a success... we experienced virtually every kind of weather except snow (and there were times when I was kinda wishing for some white stuff) What do you wear in the extreme heat that provides reasonable protection and decent ventilation? |

I wear a mesh jacket, and what is called a "cool vest" underneath it. You have to soak the vest in water before you put it on, and it's good for about 35-40 miles or 25 minutes, whichever comes first. I wear a vest with sleeves to get an extra measure of cooling, it works very well, and both Debbie and I have one. I used mine Tuesday when Art and I rode up South Mountain, and brought a half gallon of water with me to soak the vest with before heading back down. Next time, try to come down in January, the weather is much more agreeable then!

Anyone aware of a reputable shop with a dyno? I just want to confirm the tune I did on my bike is just how I want it AFR wise. Chandler HD's prices are pretty unreasonable. |

Thanks for both the clothing and timing suggestions. Joan is down next month to get the place set up and we are both there between Christmas and New Years. Hope to spend some time there in the interim as well. |

darth, Try Ramjet on Cave Creek road, they are right across the street from cycle gear. I don't know what they charge, but it's a motorcycle speed shop. I went there to get jets for my S2 back when I first moved back here. |

Has anyone made reservations at the Rode Inn yet? and can I get a head count of who thinks they are going to make the HWY191 ride? debbie wants to cook a dinner on Saturday for when we get back from the ride, and needs a place with a kitchen, we found some cabins in Alpine at a comparable price, but I need to know how many to reserve in a block before I call them... Also, if we switch to the cabins, we will need to buy all our supplies in Springerville, ie; beer, snacks, etc. there is no supermarket in Alpine. http://www.alpinearizonacabins.com/reservations.cfm shows all cabins available for our weekend at the moment...
