I realize that it probably isn't cool to carry anything on a Blast. But I'm used to my GL18000 Goldwing. On it I can go to the grocery store, buy a weeks supply of food plus a couple bags of water softener salt and ride home. On the Blast I'm lucky to get home with a candy bar in my pocket !!! I've looked at TourMaster Cortech Sport Motorcycle Saddlebags ... at around $117 ... would they work nicely ??? How about a rigid tour box ??? Can one be mounted on a rack without any drilling or modification ??? Anybody have anything used to sell ??? |

Cool enough to have this big ole section http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/63466.html?1270057019 and if you did a search in the Blast section alone using the word luggage - you would also get quite a list - lol - definitely a topic that is constantly covered and updated. ez |

Cgent - cool or not, sometimes luggage is just a necessary evil. I use my Blast for touring and have come to the conclusion that the mods on my bike may not be pretty, but are functional. I have the Cortech sport tail bag and the saddle bags. The tail bag holds a ton, is expandable and withe the built in bungee cords, goes on and off in an instant. I still have the rear foot pegs so I pull the front cords down and hook right in front those pegs, the rear cords right behind the passenger seat. My husband took some poly-card cut to match the contour of the bag, a piece inside and one outside. Drilled holes through and bolted to the bungee tabs. Again, they don't look pretty but they work. I don't overload and take only what is necessary (oil & funnel, rags, kickstand foot, spare boot, couple of tools, toll road pass). On a local weekend ride, I can stop by grocery store and not worry. Can't get a weeks worth, but enough. The tail bag can expand to hold two jackets with liners and still have a little room to spare. IMHO, great product for the price. Only downside, they don't lock and in inclement weather, you gotta stop and put on the included rain covers. The Cortech also holds up a little better than the Buell saddle bags and are more user friendly with the zip top opening. I'm a fan. And welcome to the world of Blasting |

I know I just gave a great review of the Cortech bags and I do like them. I walked into my garage in a fog last night (tough day at work) and failed to take notice of the new Caribou panniers Thumper had mounted to his Versys. Saw them this morning. No pics yet but if you saw Long Way Round or Long Way Down, you get the picture. I gotta say, being a fan of the adventure riding aspect of motorcycling, I like the look. So, Cgent, if I ever find a way to mount panniers on a Blast, well the Cortech's may become a thing of my past. I wouldn't have to drag rain covers out... http://www.youtube.com/user/Thump52#p/u/0/KNXxiIxB 43k |

I have mounted a back pack backwards (bottom forward) on the fuel tank with bungie cords. It worked OK for me except for stopping for fuel. Don't ask what kind of backpack because they all fit with bungie cords....LOL |

You can definitely make a darn good looking "full dresser" out of a Blast. |

For those that have saddlebags for your Blast, how did you manage to keep the bags from rubbing against the rear tire or interfering with the belt or swingarm. I have a set of Cortech tailbag and saddlebags (not the sport model). I was able to find a set of harley brackets that worked for a little while until I found the belt cover caught in the bracket due to a hard bump or two. When the cover got caught in the bracket, it started to rub on the belt. Since then, I've taken the bags off until I can figure out a better option. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

can you tie them to the passenger pegs like the oem luggage? |

It has straps to tie it to the passenger pegs, but no matter how tight I pull the strap without breaking it, the bags still tend to fall towards the rear wheel. |

You could take some small L channel from a hardware store, use a vice to bend it into a box U shape bolting onto the two loops under the seat meant for bungee cords. EZ |

Thanks. That's a good idea. I think I'll try to bend the brackets I have, first, and see how they work. |

Here's my latest work to keep my oversized bags away from the swingarm, brake bleeder nipple, belt guard and all the other things that make large bags hard to use on the Blast. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=20164&post=1923997#POST1923997 |
