Since these days one can be sued for defamation and libel for expressing an opinion in an internet forum without verification of the facts (freedom of speech?), I'm not going to rant haphazardly. I am conducting research on the clutch "weep" and whether or not there was a safety recall ordered. I did not receive a recall card in the mail. Did anyone else? For any of you "cleared to ride" with the clutch "weep," I discourage you from riding as what appeared to be a clutch "weep" on my bike was in fact a major leak causing the vehicle unsafe to operate. Careful out there... Keep you posted on my research.

No recall or card.Dealers know this is a problem.I guess it depends on how bad the leak is would determine if it's unsafe to ride.Mine,at this point while waiting on parts is just a weep and not a leak. (Message edited by J_Copeland on August 11, 2010) |

I don't remember ever getting a "recall notice" for my clutch leak. I'll have to check my files. I think it was a "tech tip" as HD calls it. |

There was no recall, hence you didn't get a recall card. Also, I rode over a thousand miles on my bike with a leaking clutch without issue, just had to top off the fluid once. |

I road mine until the parts came in. Common sense told me to keep an eye on the fluid level. No issues what so ever. |

One of my concerns are, after this happened in my own garage with my other bike, is what happens when you pull your clutch in and squirt dot4 brake fluid all over someones car or bike? Guess I will be left paying for that myself as well! |

I'm curious how that could happen with the cover on? |

Out the weep hole. |

It definitely happens once the puck fills up completely. I have had the clutch fluid shoot out of the weep hole because I had the puck spun so that the fluid would not leak out. |

Just turn the puck Upside down so the weep doesn't leak and explodes hot clutch oil on the fat "Tech" that has to fix it! I noticed on my new puck that the weep hole is no longer at the bottom but is now on the side...

Captain america, you sticker is sideways, lol! If you call a buell dealer, they should know about the leak, it's common as the day is long and they should order the parts without seeing the bike. Tell them you know this is a common problem. |

Captain, you are a funny funny man! I'm with Froggy...rode many many miles with the leak. No big deal. Just added fluid. However, for all you lawyers out there.....I recommend you do not ride your bike....check yourself into a mental health institution because of all the extreme stress......and sell your bike immediately.....and really cheap please.....I know somebody who needs a track bike really bad! |

I have developed the weep at around 6000 miles, but don't know what to make of it exactly. Is it a serious problem, or not? Who do you trust, some guy on this forum who says "it's OK" (very rigorous testing indeed) or Harley-Davidson (which I can see investing money into investigating this problem further--- not)? We've got great choices, these days. I look forward to what you find out 'chick. |

I don't care about a weep but mine was kinda gushing and I was afraid I would need a boat load of fluid to go for a ride. I am gonna expierement with some different seals this week see what I can come up with |

Depends, but in most cases it has been a dribble or slight leak. Eventually you will pump out all the fluid, but you would be able ride without issue, just periodically topping off the fluid. In some cases it is leaking too much, and I wouldn't recommend riding it far. The bike isn't hard to ride without a clutch in a worst case scenario. |

I call it the self bleeding clutch system... @Bueller4ever, Holy Sh*t! I never even thought that maybe someone just screwed up putting the sticker on... I figured it was intentional. From what I remember (about 4-5 months ago) my leak was not bad enough to stop riding. It started leaking @ 4.5k and rode it 2.5k before it got updated. I rotated the puck so the weep hole was at the top and only had to empty it twice. |

Mechanically it is safe to ride the bike so long as you ensure the fluid is constantly topped off. Personally I am not really trying to ride my bike while having my boot and rear brake lever covered in clutch fluid. There is nothing like going to apply the rear brake and having your foot slip off because its drenched in clutch fluid. I am definitely looking forward to getting my bike back. HD customer service said the dealership found a kit somewhere and it should be on its way to the dealer as I type. (Message edited by jpinkerton on August 12, 2010) |

Well I got seals coming Monday I will install them and see what happens. I opted to get higher heat durability on the seal material. I know this will not be the cure all but I am hoping it will last longer than the original if not hey I spent $25.00 on dumber things |

That's cool Brumbear...let us know if it works. I had talked to Michael when I was at E.B. Racing a couple of week ago, they have a fix as well. If the parts don't come in in time, I am going that route! |

Clutch on mine has been fine since last year, maybe 10k miles since the last fix. I need to find me some Motul RBF 600 brake fluid soon. New pads, rotor, hardware, etc. 18k miles and counting on the stock rotor, it's clunking a little more now than it used to when I hit the brakes and it's not the forks making the noise. The bike isn't hard to ride without a clutch in a worst case scenario. How would you get going from a stop sans clutch? Neutral -> First, give it some gas? Sounds rough... |

The clutch repair kit is not just new seals, it's a whole new cylinder and piston assembly. |

Would converting it to a cable clutch help or is it not actually related to the fact that its a hydraulic clutch? I found a few dribbles on my clutch cover too, but it doesn't weep constantly, seems kind of random. Is the random dribbling due to the hole not being at the bottom?
