So ... I thought I was getting used to the idiosyncrasies of the BLAST ... I was having trouble starting it because I had it in gear with the kickstand down. Now ... even with the kickstand up it occasionally backfires and blows the carb off it's rubber boot when I hit the key. Runs fine otherwise. What is causing a backfire when starting ??? I can loosen the strap around the rubber manifold boot ... push the carb back into it ... and snug the boot back up and she starts up just fine ... (I don't think the GRAPE like me ...)  | ||

Cold this morning ...left the Buell sit Sunday and rode the 'Wing down to the State Fair in Indy ... turned over nice & quick ... just one or two revolutions then BAM !!! Put the boot back over the carb and she started just fine ...  | ||

Should I order a case of a dozen boots from Harley / Buell or buy the super boot for $50 ??? Both seem outrageous !!! | ||

The clamp is custom and the boot modified on the Supperboot - well worth the investment, but a regular boot on a stock type setup should probably replaced every third year - rubber deteriorates in time - just like on a car, but exposed more to the elements. EZ | ||

Also try disabling the kickstand switch, and clutch switch to resolve which is doing the issue. EZ | ||

Well from what it sound like your diodes(on the fuse block under seat) are loose and or corroded. Try pulling them, remember their orientation, clean and reinstall. Your Blast should start and run with the sidestand down in gear and clutch pulled in. I do this every year after a long winter in the garage. | ||

Are you running the Blast with the carb unsupported? If so, you need to support the carb and the superboot is a very good way to go. Your Blast is probably running lean when it is cold, you might want to try enrichening the primary circuit, idle air screw and or primary jet. | ||

Things are getting better as I learn to cope with the BLAST ... you have to treat her much differently than the Goldwing .... | ||
