I wanted to take a peek at the fuel pump on my '07 and make sure that the wires are holding up (not chafing) and all connections are still semi-connected. I've read where the O-ring on the fuel pump can be reused if handled with care and lubed lightly before re-installation. Is this still the case? No one has encountered issues after reinstalling the same o-ring? I've read a very good post by Maximum from back in 2008 with some really good pictures ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/370305.html And another good one by Sanchez from last year ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442427.html ) ...in case anyone was contemplating the same. |

Jake, I used the Sanchez post to do my '06 (I had been having the pump contnue to run at switch on and was also a heartbeat away from blowing fuses - the insulation was so thin I could see the wire) and the one thing I would recommend is to loosen the rear axle first. When I disconnected the lower shock mount and raised the bike the swingarm would only move down a certain distance then seemed to stop. When I realised the belt was the limiting factor I had one of those 'Oh crap' moments and took the tension off, loosened the axle and was able to get that extra bit of movement. It was also a very doubtful arrangement the way I had it balanced and if I were to do it again I would try and lift the rear from the roof rather than try and balance everything by myself. This would be a lot easier if you can supply the beer and get a friend to lend a hand to keep things stabilised I would say. I actually replaced my O rings and didn't try to refit them but I know many guys have. |

Being the tighta$$ I am I tried to reuse the o-rings around the pump body, after install had a slight leak, removed pump to find the o-ring had broke in two. The SM says to pour motor oil over the rings on install, I used vasoline and have had no problems after several thousand miles. My advice buy new o-rings, a couple of sets. I also broke the small ring where the fuel line hooks up, it was a tight fit!! |

Thanks to you all! Any good sources for the o-rings? Are they COTS type items or specific to a certain part number? |

This is what I replaced when I pulled mine ('06) P0121.02A8 O-Ring (fuel pump) Can't remember if the O rings came in a pack of 2 or were singles? P0198.02A8 O-ring kit, banjo stud |

The OEM o-rings are premium viton material, not the common black nitrile material. Not worth potential problems if substituting for original equipment. |

When I took mine apart for the low fuel light staying on, one of the two factory O rings was torn in half on my '06, but it never leaked. I would highly recommend changing the pick up screen and the filter as long as you are in there. I think total cost for the O rings, filter and screen was around $56.00 at a stealership. |

The last three posts, well-this whole thread actually, are exactly why I've learned to ask stuff out loud. Thank you very much |
