I live in east central Indiana but have enjoyed touring Michigan on several occasions. My experience is that the "coast" of Michigan offers the finest in motorcycling touring ... especially the coast of Lake Michigan all the way from Indiana up though Holland, Muskegon, Manistee, the Leelanau Penninsula, and Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Mackinaw areas. The Upper Penninsula is the greatest !!! In the central part of the lower peninsula the Pigeon River area east of Gaylord and Vanderbilt is great if you don't mind some sand roads (not fun on my Goldwing !!!) |

I lived in Owosso, MI many years ago ... not very scenic ... I'd head north for Saginaw Bay and follow the lake shore ... |

Close to Midland.... East of Frankenmuth on the north side of the river the road is kind of curvy. Old State Rd north of Farwell. North and east of Mio there is a county road F-32 that goes to the east and ends up at the intersection of Aspen Alley then go south on 65 to the north side of the Au Sable river and head east to 23. That route by far is the best I have been on. I told a story about how I warned the Big Kid to take it easy on F-32 because during a previous 400+ mile all day ride that was the ONLY road I saw cops on, so what does the Big Kid do? We had two countys pull out from where they were parked on a trail while we were roaring around a corner and follow us all the way to Aspen Alley. Round Lake Rd, east of 127 to Lainsburg, follow south to M52. Do the Clover Leaf on 127 and 69, you get to practice your right handers! |

If you like old cars (and some bikes) a pretty ride into the country and you can even get an ice cream at the Blue Moon Diner - Gilmore Museum, Hickory Corners, MI http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/html/content_page. php?content_id=4& I miss Michigan right now - Hi Swampy |
