Ok ok I know the cap is not warped.I have two and both seep/leak fluid.Upon close inspection to me the gasket looks too small.Like it has shrunk? It isn't crushed either. It seems to pucker inward and sink to where it doesn't sit along the edge like it should. The dang thing just looks to small. The gasket itself DOES NOT protrude outside the cap at all.It actually seems to be worse at highway speeds because it is like the air is blowing out of the reservoir. So here my question to anyone with experience with bikes. Is the gasket kinda universal? Will I be able to find one at a cycle shop or is this an odd part that only Harley can order.I've looked around on the web and it seems to me there are only so many types of reservoirs. Can I go to the auto parts store and just buy a sheet of gasket rubber and make my own.I really don't get how that thing seems to have shrunk.I mean if I overtightened it I should see the imperfection right? I don't know.Any help is appreciated on the fitment of the gasket application.BTW: The bike is a 2005 XB12scg Thanks to all. |

I don't know crap about XB's. I have M2's. Get the part # from your factory parts manual and do an internet search or just contact one of the sponsors from here and they can help you also. Good luck though. ( I would use the factory part myself) |

Well Les if you haven't given up us just yet.....I assume that your M/C is the same as what is on my '06 Uly (or very similar at least). If it is way different them my apologies. On the '06 there is the cap, then a plastic plate and the the rubber diaphragm. The edges of the diaphragm form the seal on the edge and from memory the plastic bit sits in the upper part of the diaphragm to keep its shape. The diaphragm is not a simple shape and wouldn't be something you could fabricate easily. I would also suggest that if that M/C cap isn't identical to the one on my 2000 Kawasaki ZX-12 then I would be very surprised. They have a Nissin M/C that has exactly the same cap, plastic spacer and diaphragm set-up to look at. The diaphragm is identified as a separate part - H0035.9 (that is in the 2006 and 2009 parts lists). I can't help with the Kawa part number as I don't have a parts list for that. Neither my '06 or '09 '06 have ever leaked fluid from the cap so it isn't just a poor design. I can't imagine that diaphragm would be too expensive to try a fresh one? |

I had a look on the US Kawasaki site and they have the parts lists online. As I said, I can't swear to it but I think the ZX-12 part is the same - the Kawa number is 43028-1058. If you could take yours along to the Kawa shop to compare you might get a match. |
