I smell like a burnt antifreeze in the garage...the morning after a good ride. I decided to check my coolant level this afternoon and my over flow is empty. Some times I start the bike and I see a lot of moisture at first coming out of the pipe it will fog my rear rim. I guessing thats normal. What kind of antifreeze can I buy to put in the 1125R, Harley is closed and I want to ride. Thanks guys. | ||

should I leave my radiator cap off when I start the bike to burp it kinda like a car? | ||

I'll tell you my experience with coolant. When I first saw how much, or rather how little, coolant I had I was surprised. I checked at about 3000 miles. I was also surprised how easy it was to overfill. Perhaps dealers want to avoid overfilling by putting just enough in to get it out the door? I don't really know. It doesn't seem to loose more coolant than my other vehicles. I think your fog is condensation (see owners manual...short winter trips). Since it is summer I have been using water wetter with distilled water. 6000 miles and no corrosion visible in the coolant. | ||

I've seen traces of coolant leak from the water pump weep hole and various connections to the radiators, overflow tank, etc. | ||

One day only a few weeks ago my bike ran hotter than ever and reached a coolent temp of 212. The frame on my 09 CR got so hot it was uncomfortable to touch with my legs in blue jeans. When I got home and the bike had cooled down I checked the coolent level (the bike had about 3K on it now) and was surprised to see the overflow was empty. I only had to add very little, maybe 8 ounces, and it was full again when cold. Since then, because of the hot temps here in Ukiah (98 in the shade) the bike ran hotter still regarding coolent temp. I took it to the shop, checked specifications from the manual, and also checked with an engineer friend, and 220 coolent temp is the normal cieling for a pressurized cooling system and will not hurt the motor. Just the same, I notified my best friend with an identical 09 CR with about 1200 miles on it, and it was more than half-way empty in the coolent level. For whatever reason, its just one of those things you need to stay on top of. -Tutt | ||

It seems to be common for these things to come from the dealer with the overflow empty or close to it. I checked mine at about 600 miles and the overflow tank was empty. I filled it and it's been staying near the full cold level while cold ever since. | ||

I didn't realize I have to check the stuff I payed the dealer to do. I'm not so sure they checked the coolant level during the 600 mile service NOW! I could be wrong.I dont think its leaking from the weep hole because my radiator was full, just the overflow empty. Well thanks for the info guys. | ||

Same story with me. I did not check my coolant until maybe 2,000 miles and found the overflow nearly empty. 3,000 miles later, I still have not had to put any more in. It must be a dealer thing... Then again they are Harley dealers. I went in asked for antifreeze and they looked at me like I was asking for crack. Then I said coolant... for my 1125R... and then 10 second later I got an understanding. So maybe they don't even check it? | ||
