Now can ne one tell me why the 08' takes 3 qts the 09' 2.7 qts and the 10' takes 3.3 did I miss something here. It is essentially the same motor right. | ||

It would just help in checking the oil on this bike if I knew that 2.7gts is what I'm supposed to have cuz it looks more like 3qts to me on my 09' | ||

I use 3 quarts and on a well performed hot check  it will show right in the middle of the full and overfilled marks on my dipstick. | ||

They changed the engine cases and other parts of the motor over each of the 3 years, so all 3 have different levels. | ||

Vinb, that is my assumption based on the little changes they have done over the years. I don't know for sure if thats the correct answer, but it seems logical. Personally I dump 3 quarts in both my 08 and 09 and then forget about it. (Message edited by froggy on July 29, 2010) | ||

Sounds good to me. Hey on another note check your radiators for bugs and dirt in 3000 miles my left was at about 10-15% blocked and right was about 5-10% just something to look into if you don't. | ||

The service manual calls for cleaning the radiators at every service. Needless to say, I am too lazy. Last time my right pod came off, it was to scoop out the rocks!  | ||

Right I peak in at them every so often but man they didn't look that bad and that was only after 3000 miles I can only imagine what it looks like after 6000 wow | ||

Is spraying in there every time I wash it not sufficient to clean the bugs and dirt out? Every time I wash, I spray the hose into the radiators a good 5 minutes each side. | ||

It took me twenty minutes aside with an air gun and a vacuum before I was happy. | ||

Seems like the engine case on the '10 was changed with the site glass and that could reasonably explain the increase in oil capacity, but aren't the '08 and '09 the same motors as far as engine oil would be concerned? Good question. | ||

Vinb, I looked at the revised '08 oil check specifications (which has the oil capacities with and without filter change) and it seemed to be identical to the '09 Owners Manual. Both 2.7qts with filter change and 2.4qts without. | ||

I think you miss read that with filter its 3qts. | ||

I think fresno may be right the first service I did was a oil and filter change and I put 3 qts in and doing a proper hot check I was over full and I had to pull prob .3 qts to get it back down to the proper level. mine is an 08 | ||

Straight from the online 2009 owners manual: "# Fill oil through filler (dipstick) hole using recommended oil from Recommended Engine Oils. Always verify proper hot oil level on dipstick. Do not overfill. 1. Oil capacity with filter change is approximately 2.7 U.S. quarts 2.6 liters . 2. Oil capacity without filter change is approximately 2.4 U.S. quarts 2.3 liters . | ||

I still cannot find oil on the dipstick, regardless of which way I check it. I take it back to the dealer, and they said it is full. I have tried it hot, I have tried it cold, still nothing on the dipstick. I even hauled it on a trailer to the dealer, afraid to ride it...they brought it back and said it was full. I was wondering if the new case with the sight glass is an option to add onto the 09 model? If so, it might be easier to see if I have oil. REX |
