What timing! I was just putting together a riding route this past weekend for the Little Dragon and the Triple Nickel. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0 &msid=100352145770905059326.00048b8bd3a25e9522e97& z=9 |

Give us a ride report when ya get back. That is going to be the Saturday ride for the WV Buell Rally (Aug. 20TH to 22ND) I don't have any time to do a pre ride because of work and teaching... and the DIRT BIKE Class on Aug. 1ST.... WOO HOOO almost forgot about that until I looked at the calendar |

Thump4fun: I just did 555 two weekends ago. FYI: the road is closed for the 5 miles or so below Zanesville and there is a detour in place. |

ADVICE NEEDED: So, I get about a quarter of the way from Athens to Mid-Ohio early on Saturday morning on my 1125R and my battery warning lamp flips on while riding. I then get a "system voltage" error message on the instrument cluster...and all goes dead. I pull over over shut the engine off (a big mistake in retrospect with the thought that I will restart it and instrument cluster will come back up--an occasional problem on this bike). I think the instrument cluster needs to be replaced (a problem expressed on the board by a number of people) and then I have a second problem perhaps related to the wiring harness recall (which I have not yet done on the R). Perhaps the stator is fried (or voltage regulator)? Clearly I am loosing voltage while riding and not getting battery charge. So, here's my question: who do I take this to?? This is a 2009 bike so this should be warranty work. Perhaps seems like a stupid question, but I am pretty unimpressed with S&P Harley where I purchased the bike (were in Marietta, OH; now in Williamsburg, WV). I took my 1125CR there 2 weeks ago to get the harness upgrade and they forgot to install 2 of the pod fasteners and left a wire dangling out the bottom dragging on the road (found when I got home)! Pretty shoddy in my opinion. I really don't care about distance, just want it done right. SUGGESTIONS?? After trailering bike back, I got the CR and headed back up. Missed all of the Saturday races but got to see the full complement on Sunday. A part of me is happy that they did not televise the XR1200 race (but I won't go of on that). The parting blow was by a late afternoon observer talking to a friend, "hey, look at that beautiful white Triumph 675 sitting next to that black cyclops thing." Time to leave... |

The only place I know would be Farrows at 36/37 and have Mitch work on it.... |

Looks like a buddy and I are doing the other half of the BRP instead this year (given that my bike stays rideable), camping along the way. I just put together the route for the 555 and 536 ride as something else to do -- probably not until next year now though. Ohbuellman - I've had decent work done by Mitch up at AD Farrow at Northstar. If you go to Northstar, ask that Mitch works on your bike. Great Buell tech. Another tech there left box cutters and conductive wire wire next to my battery one time (not happy but luckily no impact), oiled my K&N filter and put it back in completely wet (grrrr...) and lost a translucent cover anti-vibration bolt "pin" (for lack of a better term). But...when Mitch has touched the bike it comes back as good or better then when I took it in. That's based on only three visits there though. |

Last year the WV Buell Rally raised $1000.00 bucks for one of the local football teams so they could buy new jerseys for the kids. This years WV Buell Rally benefactor will be Erik Buell Racing. What I would like to do is a silent auction. I have some Buell stuff that I can part with for a good cause and in my mind Erik Buell Racing is a good cause. What I would like to see people do is bring your Buell stuff that you can part with and put it on the auction block. It doesn't matter what it is... some one else might be able to use it... muffler clamp... tire plug kit.. Buell sticker... If you have stuff just collecting dust, bring it so someone else can bid on it, buy it and take it home and let it collect dust in there house for awhile. Court is digging thru his archives of Buell swag and is also sending a couple of signed books.... we could see some cool Buell history! Once its all said and done I will make the donation in my fathers name. He refuses to take a dime for all the food and effort he and the rest of my family and friends put into this event so I though this would be a great gesture. |

HEY MATT! Pertaining the WV Rally,I am attempting to make the trip if my work schedule co-operates. I am doing track days at Mid Ohio that week, so taking the weekend off is a bit sketchy...How much riding will be done on Sunday? I most likely could ride down after work on Sat., and ride Sunday. ...or not. Didn't see a single Bueller out tonight. :-( It was a little smaller then usual and mostly Ducs out with some BMW's, a few Triumphs, and a couple Moto Guzzi's, along with a couple Harley's and a KTM. A nice looking red late model Triumph was for sale -- never did see the owner. Enjoyed some Spagio and then had a nice cool evening ride home with the wife. hmmm...not sure now if all the looks were for my bike or my wife on the back...LOL |

How is it running? |

Sadly, it continues to run like sh*t. Going on 2 months of this now. It comes and goes, but it's progressively getting worse. Haven't been able to relate the coming and going to anything directly, like bad gas, ambient temperature, humidity, etc. I think I may be narrowing it down to the IAC or something related. It ran beautifully last Saturday, then Monday like complete crap...idling all over (500-2,000 RPM), surging/stumbling while riding, revving high at stops (1,600-2,000 RPM). That night I took the air intake off, including the rubber snorkel, and sprayed some STP throttle body cleaner down it's throat and on the butterfly. Presumably Farrow's did this the last time it was in (the 3rd visit) but it was caked again with carbon...a thin layer but completely black under the butterfly. I also sprayed both IAC bypass holes. I also pulled the plugs (must be the 5th time pulling them) but for once they weren't fouled so I left the same ones in. The next morning she ran beautifully! Then in the afternoon leaving work, total sh*t. I'm thinking the IAC is the culprit after all. Which is one of two things Farrow's thought was the problem originally (IAC or intake leak). But the check engine code told them it was the exhaust valve actuator and I don't think they looked any further at the IAC. On additional visits for the same problem, they've checked for intake leaks and so have I, with nothing found. In the next day or two I'm going to tear her open yet again and this time, remove the IAC completely from the throttle body. Clean out the bypass holes again and look over the IAC. Maybe I'll luck out and there's just carbon build-up on the plunger and all will be well. If not, I'm calling Buell customer service and see if they'll still let Farrows look at it under warranty (since it expired the day I took it in, but the original problem has never been resolved). I'm considering pulling the TPS as well, but not sure if there's actually any mechanical part to it that would get carbon buildup. It is connected through a small hole to the butterfly, so I'm thinking it's possible. Thanks for asking and wish me luck! |

Funny enough, I've had at least two other people tell me they wouldn't put up with this much. They'd just sell it and move on. But I think I'm caught up in a love/hate relationship right now. For 2 years and 10k miles, I've loved this bike -- maybe because it's my first bike. Now this 3rd year I'm having this problem and am just hopeful I can get it figured out without tainting my enjoyment once she's working well again. Trying to stay positive, but it's getting to be a struggle. |
