Good Stuff Jimmy, I vote that we stay in Vernon. Are you thinking of doing the loop 6 to 23 to 97 on Sunday? My map shows that would be 3 ferry rides!! Last night Chris hung the Harleys front end and took the front tire off. Taken it down to get replaced this morning. Needs to have a good bath, then check it out real good. Want to be sure that everything is in good order for the trip. We are planning on leaving the group Monday and heading east to Banff for a few days. Banff on Monday night, ride up to Jasper and back to Banff on Tuesday, then heading south Wednsday. Should land back at home on Friday. We have been wanting to do this for years!! I only hope that the weather holds out for us! Anyone wanting to join in let us know. Oh the glory of planning a good trip with good friends!! Throw in some good food and drinks and what more can a person ask for!! |

My friends Teddy and Amanda are not going to be able to make the Border Raid trip. I would still like to go but I need to split a room to help defray the lodging costs. Anybody going to need a roomie?? (Sometimes I even cuddle....) Kevin |

Bob, You weren't supposed to share my pillow biting habit with other people. That was our special thing; ya know, just between us... Anyway, I would be up for sharing a room with Duane, I will just get my cuddling done before I go to bed. Kevin |

Gutted i missed splash but the Guinness in Ireland was too much of a temptation. Hope a good and safe time was had by all. Looking forward to seeing you all at Border Raid as long as I can persuade the government to allow me to import my bike. Been 3 months now and the bast.... I mean the lovely government officials have not got back to me. Apparently the safety standards in Canada are far far far greater than that of europe. See you soon Paul (Message edited by thebrit on August 08, 2010) |

Jim and I did a test ride of the Duffy Lake Road yesterday. We are pleased to report that the pavement is reasonably fresh and new and smooth for the first half. The second half (of its sixty mile length) is unimproved. Meaning unpredictably bumpy and broken. No frost heaves, so better than the SPLASH roads by far but with pot holes that require paying attention. All in all, a very fun romp. Looking forward to doing it again with y'all! |

Don and I are booked for Whistler. I'm not sure how many rooms are left, so get yer room booked pronto! Just a reminder on how to get to the Crystal Lodge; Once you reach Whistler, turn right at the 5th set of lights which is, Village Gate Blvd. Turn right at the next set of lights and immediately right again, Whistler Way. Follow this road around and take your first left into Village Green, the Crystal Lodge is directly in front. After checking in we can park 4 bikes per stall, so when you go to park your bike, search for our other bike buddies to snuggle next to, otherwise you will be charged $20 for the entire stall. Also as a courtesy try to park beside, not behind someone in case they need to get out and can't locate you. Those of us that are couples would be best to park one behind the other. As for our next night's stay, we need to figure out our destination as I'm sure booking rooms will get more difficult as the days roll by. Jimmy, depending on the route we are taking, we can still do lunch at Hortings Farm. I will need to know # of people and approx time of our arrival. Can't wait! |

How’s this for a route? Friday: Everyone meets in Whistler for the Border Raid reception and many social libations. Saturday: Leave Whistler feeling spry and alert. Ride Hwy 99 north 32km to Pemberton. Fuel break for small tank bikes. Continue north on Hwy 99 (Duffy Lake Road for 99KM) to Lillooet. Then we head east (64KM) on Hwy 12 to Lytton before connecting on Hwy 1 north for 40KM to Spences Bridge. Spences Bridge east to Merritt is 62KM of some of the fastest and best engineered road in the Province. Break for a latish lunch in Merritt with time to wipe the grins of our faces. After lunch we cruise the twisty bits North on Hwy 5A through the Nicola Valley finding our way on Campbell Creek Road into Barnhartvale, and then finishing off this 123KM secondary route to Hwy 97. From here, it’s Hwy 97 for another 80KM all the way to Vernon. Saturday approx total = 500+KM or approx 300+ Miles for our US friends. Sunday: Leave Vernon enroute via Hwy 6 for 138KM to the Arrow Lakes ferry and across to Fauquier for fuel. The next butt break is in 102KM farther along Hwy 6 in New Denver. This next 48KM stretch of Hwy 31A could quite possibly be the best of the best. Its approx 24KM of perfectly groomed asphalt heaven uphill with near perfect corners before cresting along Bear Lake and Fish Lake. The second half is equally as sweet, but this side is the fast decent down to the quaint town of Kaslo. Break at the recently renovated Kaslo Hotel & Brew Pub for lunch before turning around and doing is all over again, but in the opposite direction. It doesn’t get any better than this! Just ask Galen. Sunday total = a whopping 575KM or 345 Miles. Monday: Everyone scatters in directions suitable to your destinations and level of stamina, but if you are looking for another amazing full day ride to Vancouver on roads that still need to be spanked, follow me for 540KM of holiday Monday nirvana. PS: Those (Jimmy) with small fuel tanks, remember to fill up as you arrive in Whistler as there is only one fuel station in Whistler (thats 8KM south of the Crystal Lodge, which means going the opposite direction) and the next one is 32KM north in Pemberton. Yee Haw, Got the maps out, checked the routes, looks like a great ride. Any ideas for lodging in Vernon? This also works well for Loni and I, Monday we are planning on heading to Jasper Park. Anyone care to join us? Only 24 days until the fun starts! Chris |

>>Any ideas for lodging in Vernon? Yes! I called the roach motel (Green Valley Motel) that we stayed at last year and they are currently unable to accommodate our estimated 10 rooms. The manager said that he has some forest workers living there that may vacate at the end of August but he couldn’t confirm that for a week or two. He also wants $110.00 per night for a single room with two beds. That’s a bit more than I remember it costing last year, so I found another (although not cheaper) option. So here it is: Travelodge 3000 - 28th Avenue Vernon, BC 250-545-2161 Single room with 2 Queen Beds $115.00/night Single room with 1 Queen bed $110.00/night Complimentary wireless internet. 72 Hours cancellation policy. That’s prior to Wednesday September 1st 2010 for those who can't do the math. Quote “Border Raid”, or you will pay more! I have held 10 rooms with two beds each, but there are a few more available. Book NOW! They won't last. Cheers Jimmy |
