So I have kept my mouth quiet about this auction that was held yesterday because I fully intended on buying this bike.

Unfortunately for me, the online auction program quit for a 5 minute period (in the meantime the bike sold).

So if by chance it happened to go to a badwebber, Congrats. I know how much the bike went for and it really pains me. I was willing to bid double of what it went for yesterday.

Here is a link to the bike.... Check out the VIN

$4000 and no thats not a typo. Granted there are about 10-12% on top of that in fees, but still someone got a VERY good deal.

I'd have a hard time buying a salvage title bike sight unseen... Who knows what kind of accident it had. What if the frame or swingarm is bent or something...

Pictures show a lot. Back end looks god in the pic's. If the frame gets "scratched" on motorcycles the insurance companies right it off.

If not a BWB, maybe the owner was smart enough to buy it back. I know that's what I would have tried to do. Bike gets paid off, buy it back for 4k, put 500 back in. $4.5k 2010 Uly?, Why yes thank you very much.

Typically if the buyer buys it back its before it ever goes to auction, its costs insurance companies a lot of money to throw vehicles in auctions so many are open to selling them back before they go to auction. Of course the other aspect is, auctions grab less money typically than some former owner that wants his prized possession back.

Trevd- Thats the only way I buy my bikes these days, sometimes you get surprised by unseen damage, but bikes are WAY easier to judge than cars and yes I know that from personal experience of doing this stuff for the last 10 years.

Since one of the photos shows 87 miles on the odometer, I'd say someone wrecked it on a test ride. If you look, all the damage is minimal and right side. Took out the right side scoop, dinged the header heat shield, and scraped up the puck. Totaled.

Not necessarily totalled...

Company Owned Vehicle.

Um....what "company", given the events of 10/15/09?

Don't see HD ponying up to fix it...probably just told the ins. co to "take it - we'll write it off".

Schmucks.

My guess is that the bike was never officially sold. Im guessing the damage happened at the dealership.

It will be interesting to see this thing pop up on feebay, or CL in the near future trying to get double what they bought it at auction for.

As far as the damage, my guess is that the damage happened and regardless of what it cost to fix, the dealer wanted no part of keeping a discontinued model so they called up their ins company.

How easy is it to get a rebuilt title for a salvage vehicle in WI? It's a real PITA in PA.

A COV is sold. The MoCo owns it, the warranty has begun, and it is no longer a "new" vehicle. It is "sold" to the MoCo and they become the owner.

Usually COV's are Buell demo truck bikes, press bikes, or track day bikes. And, a dealer has absolutely no say in what happens to them. They are NOT dealer inventory - they are corporate.

My 09 was a demo bike with 28 miles on the clock when I bought It. Warranty HAD started. It's up in about 3 weeks: (

I would take salvage title on that bike no problem. If it ends up on fleabay/craigslist, it will go for a hell of a lot more than $4000.00 I would also be able to get a loan on that bike for $4000.00 even with the salvage title. Home town bank, her call, yup.

Big Cheers to who ever got her!

I looked at the Vin picture and missed that it was #1.
Wonder if the damage is from when it was thrown into the dumpster : (

I think that bike (VIN #1) was at Uke's when I was at Homecoming. The sales guy said it was originally red for photos/promo, etc. and then it was changed to black before it went to the dealer. And it was marked as a COV. Anyone else recall seeing it at Uke's?

There was a 2010 at Uke's, I didn't check the VIN though. I know they got VIN #1 of the 2008 1125R.

Or maybe it was #1 XT they had at Uke's. I don't really remember; it was over a whole month ago.

The title is from Iowa. IAA in Saint Paul said it was a private owner who had it totaled out through their insurance. The bike had over 7000 dollars in damage and the pictures don't show a lot of it. Like the guy said at IAA, pictures can make anything look good...

Where was that COV info found?

The Red 2010 Ulysses at Uke's was VIN 0001 but it was an Ulysses XT.

I was gonna post my pics of it last night...
