Hi guys, this morning I picked up my 09CR from the dealer after my 620 ml service.
My dealer is a real Buell enthusiast with a lot of knowledge. He switched the ECM for me during the service.

First of all, I made a list of items i wanted programmed and included that list in the order. (Euro spec, VIN number, standard air filter, standard exhaust, sidestandswitch active, BAS active, standard idle, and normal engine braking)
All of that was programmed by Buell.

My notes:
Bike idles around 1300-1400 RPM, runs smoothly
Engine braking is same with OEM ECM, but only in low revs and low gear. From 3rd gear up and from 5000 RPM up, engine braking is a little less than standard
From 2500 RPM up smooth riding. Acceleration is insane in any gear.
Bike runs cooler as well.
Conclusion: worth every dollar.

Hope this small review will help anyone who is considering the purchase of a Buel Race ECM.
Dennis

Dennis,

I think your review correlates to the vast majority that have tried the Erik Buell Racing ECM.

I only wish your dealer was closer to me here in Germany. I would love to have a Buell friendly/smart dealer close by.

Thanks for posting, very useful. I didn't realize that you could do this with stock exhaust and stock air filter.

Has there been any change in fuel economy?

Pilot172,
I asked for the side stand switch to be retained but I can now ride with it down, I tried just to see. have you checked ? My bike also started to cut out off idle, ended up under the bike in a supermarket car park as a result, very embarrassing.

Yes, my fuel economy went up a bit with the Race ECM.

Stibrell,
You are right! sidestandswitch is NOT active on my bike! Thanks for the heads up! I emailed Erik Buell Racing to ask why.
I've experienced the cutout twice, but only in the beginning of my rides. I'll try another TPS reset and keep u informed.

The cuttout might be as a result of the fact that the Erik Buell Racing ECM doesn't increase the revs when you let the clutch out like the OEM one does when cold.. It's possible that you might have got used to that...

Just a suggestion..

Jules,
That was my first thought but just a small blip of the throttle would cut out the bike in neutral too, like pilot172 this happened when the bike was not fully up to temp.
I fixed it by adding 10% fuel just to the off idle region using Tunerpro.
Steve.

Well I just got around to fitting mine and definately feel the fuelling is improved, it's much smoother and "feels" faster which is good.

I'm in the UK so requested retention of the side stand switch but unfortunately that seems to have been missed off and it no longer works (but that's OK I don't mind).

The first corner i came to the bike "hesitated" and "coughed" and almost stalled, which was a bit interesting as I was only going slowly and so the bike almost dropped from under me.

It was fine after that and I rode to a friend's house. After 2 hours there I set out to come home and the same thing happened at the first corner..but again after that it's fine.

Idle is lower (1400 ish) and the bike is "quieter" (Barker w/o quiet core) and the engine braking has reduced significantly - all good stuff.

The bike pulls smoothly right through the rev range now - really nice : )

It's a shame about the sidestand switch but no big deal : )

Jules,
The hesitation is exactly how mine behaved, only when cold and within a short time of moving off, as you say, first corner was where it normally happened, unfortunately I did drop my bike. I am in UK too but have stock pipe, may be something about the UK bikes is different to US bikes.

Cheers Steve - I may have to do the same as you and add a bit more fuel just off idle.

I'll "suck it and see" for the moment, I need a new front O2 sensor anyway so I'll see if that makes a difference (unlikely I know given it's not in the correct range).

Give me a shout if you're ever up Gloucester way.

Recent comparison between stock 1125R and with EB pump gas ECM and race pipes/can, K&N air cleaner, denoided.

No I don't see "coolant cold" at startup.

Interesting three UK bikes with same hesitation issue off idle, a quick correction, checked my notes, I increased the off idle fuel by 8% not 10%, tried a few different values.
Does anyone know if rev increase on the stock ecm when releasing the clutch also richens the mixture or if the option can be accessed in tunerpro ? Just curious.
Jules, I'm in Devon, will drop you a line if I head up Gloucester way.
Cheers
Steve.

My 09 1125R euro with ebr ecu also does not have the sidestand switch in operation.I have watched diag mode with the bike on rear stand and the stepper iac does still open when the clutch switch is made while in gear, but the revs do not rise noticeably like it does with standard ecu. My engine also does stall on the 1st attempt to pull away,I can prevent this by letting it warm up a bit then giving it 5 or 6 revs before putting in gear and pulling away.It will do the same thing even if the engine is hot,but never does it on further starts. By the way ebr confirm they have calibration for stock exhaust with cat or without cat, unfortunatly I have been supplied one for a non cat,it runs much better so I dont know if I will bother sending back for the cal for cat to be loaded.

My 09 1125R has one of the first Erik Buell Racing ECM in UK fitted, with an HPE race can (at the moment) and initially a remus can.
No hesitation off idle, no rev rise when put into gear with the clutch in, no stalling moving off whether the engine is hot or cold, no more surging at 3 to 4000 rpm, the ECM is for non CAT, sidestand enabled, pump fuel, modded IAC for overun etc - couldn't be more pleased to be honest.

Took mine out for it's first shakedown yesterday, only 15 miles but first impressions are good, very easy to stall though when letting clutch out, just have to give it a bit more throttle when pulling away. Also my sidestand switch doesn't work either, which is a bit annoying as it was my only request...

Dennis,

Thanks for the information. By any chance, do you recall your fuel economy figure before the change to Race ECM?

Right now (stock ECM), I can get up to 40 miles/gallon while cruising on the highway, and I get about 34 miles/gallon in mixed use.

Thanks again for posting!
