Joe - the tail section was 200 plus shipping. I will have it on Wed. Spidey - I will take the bolt out and see how it is installed, just give me a few days as I am without my tools right now. |

OK, I know this is a tad late but I just got back from vacation. The twelve point bolts came from Summit Racing. Part#: ARP-611- There did not seem to be anything special done for them to work. I did not see any adapter or retooling. Also below is the pics of the new tail. It weighs about a quarter of the original tail section.

Hillis3, wow, looks great. I will be anal for a minute. Next time please take the time to put a towel or some rags on the ground before you put your body work on it. You will get some rash on the parts that touch since this stuff is fiberglass which is a lot softer than cement or asphalt. Are you going to paint it the same color as the bike or go with a different color for the whole bike? Are you going to paint the lowers as well??? Again, looks great... |

I may paint the tail section the same color as the rest of the bike. I haven't decided what to do with the lowers. I kind of like the white to go with the frame so I'm leaning on leaving them white. (Message edited by hillis3 on July 18, 2010) |

Of course I could paint the tail white. It would be a little different.

I would imagine they are a tad longer that the stock bolts. I do also. But the question is how does it sit in the chamfer... With a flat/flange bolt sitting in a chamfered hole you will get a different contact patch... I am going to fire up the CAD to draw what I am talkin about... |

OK Here is what I am talkin about
On the left is the stock bolt, you will get almost 100% coverage of the 'clamping' surface. On the right is the ASR type bolt. You can see it can it could damage the plate, leave a less than positive 'clamping' force... |

I thought, and I do not know, that the bolt head was bigger and it did not sit in the chamfer at all... Kind of hard to tell from the pics. I imagine that since these were all replaced on Hillis3's bike that he would not have a frame of reference except your cad picture. |

I got to tell you that I would like a replacement like his setup for the simple reason of making a roadside belt change a little easier. Of course that is really not the hardest part unless a bolt is frozen... DAMHIK |

Well I'm sure somebody with CAD could come up with some conical washers to fill the countersink under the flat bolt head...if enough people wanted to make this change, that is. |

I can make you all the 3d, 2d, patterns, drawings ET AL But that doesn't make the part... On top of that, we would need to run tests on the best material to use, FEA analysis, tolerance stacking etc..

OK, well I did pull it out and check to see if there was anything special drilled for the bolt. The washer that you see in pic, I kind of assumed that it was a part of the bracket. The washer did not budge when I originally removed the bolt. But, now that I know it was not designed that way I know what to look for. The washer has to be attached somehow, right? And I will post pics. |

Jay, you may not be getting my PMs.. Denny is in Denver, fuel pump went out in CA and he got it replaced thanks to Erik Buell Racing and FMJ, his fan is now out. I told him he may be ok because if the rear cylinder gets too hot it will go into spark skip mode... The more I think about it it might be his regulator going out. (in case you get a chance to talk to him you might want to mention that) Of course if he was on his S2T he would not have those problems. Are you coming out for the Southwest Buell Rally next month???? |
