I have a 09 1125R and saw a 05 blast pop up for sale localy with 6000 miles. The guy is asking $1000 for it.I'm wanting to get this for my wife so i'll be able to open up the 1125R with out her on my back, lol. What should I look for before buying this bike? Anything to beaware of? Loving the Buell line just dont want to get stuck with something with no parts for or a history of problems. Thanks ahead of time for any help on this. |

Besides obvious things like bald tires, severe oil leaks........ the things you'd look at on any used vehicle. Bone stock is best. Any kind of modifications are an indicator of trouble as you dont know who did the work or why. There isnt much you can do to a Blast if its been dropped. If it was dropped bad enough to bend anything major, then it would either be a salvage or in very poor condition. They take a crash very well! Generally, especially with anything later than 2000-2002, there isnt much that can go wrong or does go wrong with them. Most problems, if any, are a simple fix. I consider $1000 cheap for that year (or most any year) Blast. |

Thanks for the info. How many miles can you get out of one before needing a overhaul? The guy said it is bone stock with no mods. I'm going to look at it this afternoon. |

Talked to the guy again, seems the bike was used in the training school at the Harley shop before he got it.Says it has a couple scratches on it but other that that it is good to go. Any downfall on this bike being one from the school? Thanks again for all the input on this. |

Yes - however, the more miles at the range - the harder it has already been ridden - I would inquire - to see the previous bill of sale at the dmv records - EZ |

The honest answer is that the "Riders Edge" or MSF training bikes have had some hard miles and generally are not a good bet. 5000miles of training would be very harsh. If he was asking 'blue book' for it I'd say a big NO! just on the fact its a training bike. We do have some guys here who've bought RE bikes and have had good luck with them. Concurring with EZ; still probably a good deal and unless there was something seriously wrong with it, you could easily get your money back if you sold it. |

Get it! $1000 is a great deal as long as it runs well and is "all there." If its been in the training program, the oil has been changed regularly, which is the main thing. |

If it's less than 1,500 miles of RE, you'll probably have a primary leak around the clutch cable on the left side. It's chronic and a pain not a killer. Run it a little while and test ride it to check for Das Boot and if runs up to 70 pretty easy, you should be good. Mine had 800 range miles, dropped several times, but has run great for the past 11,000. Still leaks a little primary oil, though. |

Dont worry. There'll be plenty more deals to come. There's also still many low mileage (1000-4000miles) Blasts out there waiting to be sold. Sometimes when you ask a bunch of questions, it gets the owner thinking too. Sometimes a low price means "just come and buy it, I dont want the hassle of selling it". |
