Yes, like I said he did some impressive riding, but I have seen Miguel Duhamel win the Daytona 200,and the Daytona 600SS race, in 1999 when he could not walk on his own. By the way Rossi has ridden an R1 many times , I have watched his commercial, where he is riding one many times . I think he even tested one, prior to all the talk about him racing Troy Bayliss ,before the start of the 2009 season . |

Commericals on a R1 is a far cry from turning the laps Rossi did yesterday. And supposing he did test on the R1 before the start of the 2009 season might as well been 1999. One month from a horrible broken leg to turning world class laps on an unfamilar bike. Hard for anyone to discount that no matter how hard they try. |

By the way Rossi has ridden an R1 many times , I have watched his commercial, where he is riding one many times . Of course Rossi has ridden an R1 and other superbikes before (He did win at Suzuka for Honda remember?). However he hasn ot ridden a full WSB spec R1 before now and certainly not with Bridgestone GP tyres (Which would not have suited the bike at all, given that it is built for Pirellis). Take a close look at the times form Misano this year and you would se that his lap times on RACE tyres (Not soft Superpole tyres which is why I excluded superpole) would have been good enough for a mid pack qualifying position. I know he didn't do a full race distance but to be honest I'm sure his lap times would have got faster with more laps not appreciably slower. If you want to be pedantic in comparing times maybe we should be comparing his test times to the times set in first free practice for the Misano WSB round rather than race or qualifying times after teams have had the best part of 3 days to fine tune thier bikes. In first free practice this year at Misano the fastest rider was Troy Corser with a time of 1'37".362 and Rossi's test time would have placed him somewhere between 10th & 12th (depending on how accurate you think the unofficial timing was at the test)just behind Carlos Checa and in front of Xaus, Lanzi, Biaggi, Guintoli, Rea, Camier and the rest of the WSB regulars. Most of these riders completed 23 or 24 laps in the first free practice session which is similar to the distance that Rossi did in his test. 1 11 T. I've seen plenty of riders who could hardly walk lifted onto machines and perform well in a race (Lorenzo last year is a good example) but none who have gone so quickly on their very first test ride back after an injury of this magnitude. |

Well, at least one "Silly Season" rumor was confirmed today. Stoner to Honda. Confirmed by both HRC and Ducati. |

Trojan- Rossi fanboy, if you did your research honestly , you would have known a few corners were patched and sealed days before the start of the WSBK weekend at Missano . That is why the times were slower in the 1st practice then they were at the Missano test a week earlier. The link I posted gave the times after 2nd qualifying on saturday, but WSBK riders only get to use gualifying tirers in Superpole ,not in qualifying practice . |

The link I posted gave the times after 2nd qualifying on saturday, but WSBK riders only get to use gualifying tirers in Superpole ,not in qualifying practice . You just can't admit can you. Why does it stick in your throat so much to see Rossi perform so well on his first ride back? 1st practice is the ONLY comparison you can make because that is when the riders would be most unfamiliar with the bike and track and put in around the same amount of laps that Rossi did yesterday (regardless of work done on the circuit - how do you know there has been none done since?). The only reason WSB riders were quicker in second practice was that they had the setup sorted and there was more rubber on the track, and had little or nothing to do with the patching of the circuit. If the patching was bad for 1st practice it wouldn't have improved in time for 2nd practice or qualifying I can assure you. WSB riders can use their soft (qualifying) tyes whenever they like over a weekend(superpole or free practice) but all choose not to because they only get a small allocation of tyres and don't want to waste 'qualifiers' before superpole. Many times this year riders have run out of soft tyres before superpole 3 and have to qualify on race tyres instead. You can argue all sorts of permutation you like but the fact is he was fast enough to qualify for the WSB race this year even on a 'strange' bike set up for different tyres and a different rider and with a badly broken leg and injured shoulder. Am I a Rossi fan, of course I am, and anyone who knows anything about racing should be too. |

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/racing/valentino-r ossi-signs-two-year-contract-with-ducati/ At least the above article doesn't refer back to the MCN article (at least not directly). According to this article, confirmation will come Monday. IF it's true, then next year I will be rooting AGAINST Vale. As I said in an earlier post, I'm a Yamaha fan first, and a Rossi fan BECAUSE he rides a Yamaha. IF the rumors are true, then I'll be rooting for Ben Spies and Jorge Lorenzo. Stay tuned. |

Rossi is quite simply the best rider of this era and likely one of the best of all time. Anyone not seeing that is blind IMHO. |

I think it's quite obvious he is the best racer of all time. His accomplishments speak for themselves. It's not often you can see the greatest of all time in any sport, let alone one performing in his prime (or very close to it.) Take advantage! |

Rumor has it that Rossi will be testing again at Brno on the R1. If all goes well, we may see him ride in Germany next week, and Laguna Seca the week after! |

Rossi is definitely testing Toselands R1 this afternoon and we have been told to expect a press release from Yamaha at around 2pm (UK time) which I am sure will confirm or deny his participation in the next GP |

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2010/rossi+concludes +test+at+brno Reportedly, that time is .1 faster than the fastest lap set by Crutchlow in Race 2 yesterday and easily faster than Toseland (whose bike he was riding) went all weekend. GOAT? Hell YEAH! |

completed 46 laps Now that's some serious testing...and hour and a half on the bike at least. Toseland just has to chalk it up to being in the presence of sheer greatness. |

Just for AMAfan - I checked and there had been no patching or resurfacing at Brno between Sunday race and Monday testing by Rossi. Tyres were the same as used by Toseland in the race (although Rossi's fastest 1'59".2 time was set on qualifiers at the end of the session). Rossi set consistent times in 1'59.7 region on race tyres and did 46 laps in total during the session. For the record that is faster than anyone managed during both races over the weekend and a lot quicker than either of the regular Yamaha riders on race tyres. |

Matt, In the post-practice interview, Rossi said he even did some setup work on the bike. Do you think the Sterligarda team will keep those settings? |

We have just had exactly the same conversation here at work...I think that Toseland will be on the phone tomorrow shouting 'DON'T TOUCH A THING,I'LL RIDE IT JUST AS HE LEFT IT!!!' |

Toseland will probably never wash that seat again... Poor Biaggi, even in his best season ever, Valentino has to remind him he's still second best. I heard he just sent Vale a card: "Get well soon... PLEASE (and quit testing SBK bikes)." Max is definitely someone who knows something about racing and still hates Valentino Rossi. (Message edited by eldredma on July 14, 2010) |

I'm pretty sure that Biaggi will be sitting at home sticking pins into a Rossi doll and praying to all the Roman gods that Vale hasn't got a taste for Superbikes after getting to grips with the R1 so well Rossi is probably considering a couple of years with Ducati in MotoGP, finish off with a Superbike title to complete the 2 wheel set and then off to F1 with Ferrari for the next 2-4 years :0 |

I have read a very similar story elsewhere that stated Rossi would going to Ducati virtually single handed (except for his telemetry guy). I'm not sure how much truth there is in the stories but it would be most unlike Rossi to make the move without his familiar crew to support him. Maybe Burgess decided that he didn't want to make another move at what must be the tail end of his career, or may even be considering retirement (I believe he is 60+ years old already so must be thinking of putting his papers in soon). It is pure conjecture so far that he will automatically become Ben Spies crew chief should he decide not to follow Rossi, and I suspect that Burgess may just bow out of MotoGP at the end of this year. I would also think that Spies would want a major role for Tom Houseworth and that may cause friction effectively having 2 crew chiefs. At the moment my money would be on Burgess going with Vale to Ducati, but if he decides not to I reckon he will call it a day. |

He's cleared to go. I'll have to catch this on DVR since this weekend is the Ramapo 500 and I won't be home till Sunday evening. I just hope he didn't push this "too soon." I wonder how much Dorna begging and crying over lost revenue had to do with his decision? |
