Or maybe 150 hours. I lost count. Recipe: 1- Take one perfectly clean 2010 1125CR. 2- Begin shopping for used/damaged bodywork. Why? Because of the "genius" idea that having a crashable bike makes you ride more relaxed (with less fear of crashing). Yes this is eminently debatable. 3 -Spend an enormous amount of time looking for the "right" used/damaged bodywork. 4 -Spend a bunch of money buying used/damaged bodywork. 5- Spend time at Home Depot picking out the "right" sanding and painting items, including a few rattle cans of flat white and satin clear. Then give them a pile of money. 6- Spend an enormous amount of time sanding and polishing said bodywork. Don't make it perfect though, because that then completely defeats the purpose of item #2 above. 7- Spend a day painting/sanding/painting. 8 - Have a special friend at Erik Buell Racing send you an old S1 race fairing from their parts bin. 9 - Remove all the stock bodywork. 10 - Lose several nylon washers (not mandatory) 11 - Replace all the stock bodywork with the "fixed" bodywork. 12 - Modify some sheet metal pieces to hold the S1 fairing to the front of the motorcycle. 13 - Realize the S1 fairing is too fat at the bottom to allow lock to lock turns. 14- Cut the S1 fairing to size. 15 - Spend more time shopping for the "right" fasteners for the fairing. 16 - stuff foam behind it so it doesn't flop around. 17 - apply available stickers. 18- swap stock wheels and tires for track day wheels and tires (oh, but don't forget to buy a pre 2010 axle to go with that older wheel). 19 - enjoy the satisfaction of having made a kind of crummy/mediocre-looking race bike out of a very sweet street bike. THAT my friends, is what I call FUN! STOCK bike (mostly) has: Axio Tail Bag FMF Pipe Escort 8500 Radar Detector Barkbusters STORM handguards Here are a few shots from this weekend. Whew I would definitely crash on that pavement! Good idea! Funny too. Why not just race a trashy looking bike and smoke everyone? Eff all the sanding and crap. |

Well some of the pieces came off red bikes and some came off black bikes, so it was kind of extra f'ugly that way. A bit too f'ugly, even for the task at hand. Maybe if I had more stickers... |

I would have done something like that, if you had'ent done it 1st and warned me, but it would'nt have came looking as good as yours. Powerful, "what the heck is that factor". Good job. |

holy crap dude....i'm in the beginning stages of doing something similar to my 09 CR-started with swapping the tail out for a scratched up xb tail...and so it begins. I know how u feel! Your bike looks great with its new look! Lemmee guess, you did a few track days and now you wanna ride there more than the street right? Thats what happened to me at least. No desire to ride on the street after riding on track. |

Steve? On the track? naaaahhhhh.... So...track report? You promised in another thread...how'd the CR feel to you on the track? Great looking CR, by the way. Just needs an Erik Buell Racing sticker somewhere |

Erik Buell Racing stickers will arrive today. -- ordered em too late for the track day. Ride report in another thread. And it's "great looking" in low rez pix or from 5 yards away (or without your glasses on, or in a garage with the lights off, etc). If you walk up and scrutinize, it looks like it has impetigo in some areas, a bad case of warts in others... Luckily the only people who get that close are friends in my pit area and the people I am passing.

Danny. Sort of. In this case it was a lot more like stepping over a twenty to pick up a nickel... But now I have a set of "race" body work that minus the labor, actually cost something like $100 all in. So that's actually not so terrible...right? |

hey I think we're gonna post my initial message in this thread on Cycleworld.com It wasn't intended for the "general" public... but they may want to put it up. Do me a small favor and don't go "this was already on badweb..." I'm not getting $ for it.... it's just a protocol thing. But I'd like to give the Buell the public 'pop'. Know what I mean? thanks y'all |

Good writing Natty, almost like you have done this kind of thing before... Also, If you are at $100 all in not including the time spent that's not so bad. Time spent d!cking with motorcycles is always time well spent, right? |

Nice! I like the Nautilus mounting near the oil cooler -- was that difficult? I'll bet it's deafening placed out in the open like you have it. Relay? Matching one on the other side? |
